Clicking a thread title no longer takes me to the most recent post?

My normal visit involves clicking the "New Posts" link to get a list of updated threads since my last visit, then going down the list and middle-clicking the thread titles I'm interested in. This opens a series of tabs, one for each thread, that I then work my way through to get caught up on the discussions I want to follow.

Normally, the tabs open up at the first new post in the thread. However, for the last few days, they've been opening at the top of the page that holds the first new post in the thread.

For example, this morning I read through the NetJets 680 thread through reply #100. Just now, I clicked the "New Posts" link, and saw that something new had been posted since I did that, so I clicked the thread title, expecting to be taken to post #101. Instead, I was taken to post #81--the first post on page 3. I had to then scroll down from there to find the new reply.

This change in behavior seems to have happened around the time it was reported that a new anti-bot mechanism had been put in place to help site responsiveness. I'm not sure if the two things are related, but that's the only thing I'm aware of that changed around the same time I started seeing this new behavior.

Is it possible to go back to the way it was before, where clicking on a thread will jump to the first new-to-me reply in the thread?

It still works for me, but only if I have unread posts in that thread. If I've already seen the unread posts, refresh and click on the thread again, it takes me to the first post. But it's always been that way, as far as I recall.

I've noticed that at times (especially on longer older threads) that it dumps me at the top, but I've not come up with the exact situation when it does this so I could hunt it down. The JUMP TO NEW buttons at the top and bottom help.

I suspect that one condition is when the db/software gets updated

I'm the one that does that, and I'm not seeing the correlation.

I've done some testing and it seems to vary from thread to thread in the New Posts list. Some take me to new, some don't.

Nope. Then everyone would be noticing and complaining.

As others have reported, still working properly for me.

One thought, have you recently cleared cookies or installed software that might be doing something like that on your behalf? It seems like xenforo has to be keeping this information server side to work properly, so cookies shouldn't matter. But, as with Bob's question above, the problem is that server side stuff should be changing everyone's behavior, not just yours.

I do note that there is a slight difference between the New Posts link which is thread#/unread and the Jump To New which is thread#/unread?new=1. I'll have to dig into the distinction between these in the source code.

I've seen for older threads that had been idle for a long time before getting a new reply where it takes me to the original post (thread starter) even though I had previously read through the thread "way back when". That's been normal Xenforo behavior for as long as I've frequented Xenforo forums (~10-15 years?).

I've never seen it take me several pages into a thread and drop me at the top of page 3 even though I just read through all the replies on page 3 an hour ago. That's new behavior in my experience.
