What an insane day... first the aviation related story from KPPQ
https://khqa.com/news/local/pittsfield-penstone-airport-closed-due-to-vandalized-runway

Small airport in the middle of a cornfield pretty much, my bet would be someone trying to do holiday drag racing.

But here's the biggie. Last night I went to let the dog in and I saw an ambulance drive by on the road which is really weird since this is a long gravel road in the middle of nowhere. Like almost 2 miles of road and there are maybe 5 houses on it. Later I looked out the window and saw police and emergency vehicles through the trees, figured maybe someone had a heart attack or something and then this morning everyone is asking me about this event which indeed did happen right next to me at that time.

Now I know for some a stabbing in their general area isn't that big of a thing but here it's pretty huge. My wife is insisting we start locking all the doors at night. Ugh.

What a shame. I’ll guess someone drag racing.

in the USENET way back, Pittsfield was home to the annual gathering a number of years.

Wow, here I am living in the area flying and I had no idea.

The only nice thing about violent crime in a rural area is the violence usually isn't random. There is usually some relationship between attacker and victim. Not always, but I'd guess you are safe.

So busted lights make in unusable until they are fixed? Seems odd... cant it be used by day?

If I had to guess, stabber and stabbee knew each other and intoxicating liquor was involved.

Yep. Here where I live in New Mexico is supposed to be the highest violent crime rate in the state. But it is all mostly indian on indian and inside the family. Alcohol and harmless smoke is usually involved just in about every instance.

Guns save life... In fact, in Illinois, along the hiways and byways you'll see Burma Shave like signage that illustrate it whimsically..

Gunssavelife.org. I think.

Exactly. Notam it as "some runway lights missing" or "temporarily closed to night operations". Not sure why they closed the airport. That'll teach the vandals...
