Chopper down at fargo

KINDRED, N.D. (Valley News Live)- A Hughes 269C helicopter crashed in a wheat field in South East Kindred earlier this morning.

The pilot told Valley News Live that he felt something snap and he lost power to the rotors on the helicopter, so he quickly landed it and got out.

Once he was out the pilot described that the helicopter tipped on its side and burnt up.

A Hughes 269C is a low inertia rotor, not a lot of energy stored in the spinning rotor on the glide. Timing is critical in the flare to land. If he set it down and it started to lean it was time to abandon ship and get out. It will roll over if the rotor is still spinning.
