So, I found a pretty decently sized cut in the sidewall of the left main on my Cherokee 140. Changing tires is fairly easy and i've done it before (on a cessna), but I have a couple of questions:

1. I read that the appropriate jack placement point on the cherokee is a cone shaped point located just outboard of the mains on each side. I've already located these points. Is this info accurate?

2. I only need to change one tire, is it structurally safe to only lift the side that I will be working on?

Thanks much!!!

Yes.....on the small cone.

Yes, it is safe to lift only one side, although I've heard disagreement. My mechanic, who maintains 30 PT135 cherokees, has been lifting one side for decades.

Make sure you chock all the other tires.

One thing I really like about this site is that I see pilots who are doing owner maintenance actually seek out advice rather than blindly just doing something wrong as I have known others to do.

As Skywag wrote, chock the other tires. Also, just lift it far enough to get the job done, no need to go any higher.
