Chattanooga TN questions

Anyone on here from the Chatanooga area? I'm thinking about potentially finishing up my IR training in the south because the weather here in January is garbage. Any comments about any DPE in the Chatanooga area? FBOs? Hotel recommendations? what are some good airports around the area?

Yup, Chattanooga. Winter here can be a crap shoot, could be nice, could be cold, gray, and low ceiling. Ben Carr is a great DPE, rode with him for PP and IR.

KCHA is a fairly sleepy class C, you would get lots of practice approaches in, Wilson Air is the FBO, and I've had good luck with Wilson at various airports. KFGU is a good airport under the class C shelf to the east, but is further from hotels and has no rental cars, etc.

Hotels are abundant, all of the chains then some. Downtown is a little more pricey but the downtown is very pedestrian/bike friendly and has lots of interesting restaurants and places to walk.

Although, to be honest, if I were taking time in the winter and I wanted to maximize my chances of completing the IR, I'd go somewhere in the southwest where good weather is almost certain.

I would be concerned about the freezing level in January anywhere in TN. I live in Northeast TN. Maybe you have FIKI and it would be less of a concern. I don't fly IFR in TN in January.

Watch out for ice there. Florida may be a better alternative. Have you considered finishing up with CFII Darren:

Texas doesn't have "The Scenic City."

Thanks. But I'm not interested in finishing up in FL. I have reasons for GA/TN area
