Cessna 182P - Pponk my O-470 or IO550?

Fascinating conversation especially as a new 182 owner, 1976 182P. Long-term project for me will probably include one of these choices. I like the idea of saving 1 gallon per hour, but in the grand scheme of cost of airplanes that really doesn’t save me that much however having a whole firewall forward, new airplane sounds appealing. I currently have a three bladed hartzell HC-G3YF-1RF on the aircraft, wonder if it would work for the upgrade.

With some of the mods substantial ballast is required that reduces

Useful Load.

Looks like it. They list this on the site:
  • Hartzell PHC-G3YF-1RF/F8429-6 (3-blade Voyager 80″ Cessna 182 H through R)

FWIW, I did the XP-470 for my 182P last year. I went with the 2 bladed MT for the weight savings. I'm happy with it, but if my existing prop worked, I wouldn't swap it out.

Is a turbo P Ponk an option?

I mean, anything’s possible, but I’ve never heard of one and it’s not a Northpoint STC.
Yeah - too much free time and was thinking "what if". Dang though, can you imagine a turbo or supercharged normalized P Ponk on a 182? Beast of the beasts. But.... back to reality and waiting for plane to get out of annual. Before it get's shipped off to the avionics shop.

We just ordered a PPonk for our 180. The IO 550 too much money and adds complexity

I know of one owner who I believe got a field approval for putting a FAT supercharger on Pponk. Old threads on the Cessna Pilots Association forum (the old forum, not the new one). I recall him spending most of his spare time trying get the thing to not overheat.
