JOOC, what are the FAA medical ramifications for a cancer patient? I assume that the medical is invalid until cancer free, but is there a period of time after being cleared that one has to wait before being certified?
I think it will vary with the cancer and the treatment. A benign skin cancer that is excised under local shouldn’t impair your flying ability. (Voiceover) For everything else, there is a Special Issuance.
It very much depends on the cancer. For some cancers, and other medical issues, the FAA has put out CACI worksheets. Stands for Conditions AME Can Issue. There are several for cancer. If the conditions fit within the CACI guidelines, you don't need a Special Issuance. If not, you do.
