I have annual billing question. GEICO comes from the experimental world where things are straight forward.

I was quoted a cost of $1,100 for an annual + the cost of materials. Seems reasonable.

I get the bill for $1,100 plus materials, but they added the costs of doing or completing 25, 100, and 500hr inspections.

Why would this be in addition to the annual? It didn't take them any longer than the annual, but they then broke out the manual and decided to add mo money to the bill?

Then he put 65w oil in when I specifically told him 80w or 15w-50. 65w is for temps below -12c.

Is this normal? Did I get screwed?

All comments appreciated, and no, I did not eat Cole slaw.

Yep! Never heard of adding in the 25, 50 and 100 hour inspections with the annual. Offer to pay the $1,100 plus materials. No more. Sounds like sloppy business practice to me. Oh, and make them replace, on their dime, the oil with what you asked for.

Edit: The 100 hour and annual inspections are the same, just the sign off is different.

Our shop ate our mistakes. I hope they enjoy eating theirs.

Does your butt hurt? Because it sounds like you got bent over.

I'd pay the $1100 and materials and nothing more.

Is this on a helicopter? Are those other maintenance items things that were required for everything to be in compliance for the annual to be signed off?

If this is a normal piston airplane yeah I think you got screwed but I know you've been talking helicopters and I don't know much of anything about their maintenance requirements.

Sounds like a helicopter. Those other inspections (25, 100 and 500 hour) have items that aren't covered under an annual inspection, but must be complied with to maintain airworthiness.

Huh?

Sounds odd, also for winter ops most folks use 15w or XC.

The hourly portions are from the maintenance manual and are usually the servicing portion, IOW grease this, oil that, type stuff. which should be part of the annual as billed.

the oil is another matter, you told them what oil you wanted, they did not deliver. I'd take it back and tell them you want it removed and the right oil put in.

Yes, Robinson R-44 helo.

Then what is the $1100 for? :dunno:

It makes to sense to charge $1,100 for inspections when they turn around and charge you again for the same inspections.

Welcome to the helicopter world. What was the total bill?

$2650. Reasonable by helo standards I know, but I just don't (what seems like) double billing.

I guess I need to sit in on an annual and see what they do. This was a pre-buy / annual. Minor sqawks is all. Very please with the ship, but I haven't flown it yet.

I had an experienced pilot test fly it for me.

Personally I would read what is required in those inspections and compare that to whats required in the annual. If theres things in those inspections that aren't in an annual then I wouldn't call it double billing. That said I would be annoyed if they proceeded with work that costs more than what you originally authorized without talking to you.

Rotor&wing & Jesse have it right. I just got off the phone with him and either he conned me again or I am starting to understand it.

He is changing the oil tonight.

GEICO does not know the certified world very well at all, and helos even less.

Thanks to all who responded. Pass the cole slaw please. :goofy:

Gotta love the knowledge on POA.

You got a deal. I wouldn't complain about it.
