196 statute miles doesn't put it all that close. I'd bet they didn't use your average $500 digital camera for that shot.
PS: The ISS orbital tracker page tell you right where it is.

My son and his family are in Oceanside. His wife works at Pendleton. Haven't heard from them yet. Worried

My aunt and uncle left Fallbrook Monday to stay with friends in Temecula (sp?). My cousin is hanging tight in Escondido (sp?). He e-mailed yesterday and said he seems safe for now.

Here's a site with pretty good links for updates on the situation in north San Diego County, including Fallbrook: http://fallbrookfire.blogspot.com/

My dad's condo is on the south side of the Pala Mesa Resort golf course, about a mile south of the resort headquarters. All we know right now is that the main part of the resort is "devastated" and at least some of the associated condos are gone. All of Fallbrook is still evacuated.

News just said more than half a million people have been evacuated so far.

My uncle lives in San Diego area. Some town that starts with a C I think. cant remember. should probably call him.

I correspond with a few Oceanside folks on another board - posted a request for Pirep over there and will report back with what I hear.

Heard from son. His house is nearly 10 miles from the nearest fire and the wind direction has changed so it is no longer approaching. Grandson & his mother are staying near the house.

from an Oceanside resident re: my query

"Oceanside has not been evacuated, and it probably won't be as of this morning. I feel very safe here, and all of my family is right here with me on the coast.

Camp Pendleton has been evacuated in some parts. I just heard on the news that there are 3 fires on Camp Pendleton. Camp Horno fire burned all of the way to I-5 and jumped the freeway to the west side. I think they said it was 4000 acres. Margerita fire is a small one on the east side of CP, about 200 acres. A new fire near the front gate (Oceanside Harbor side) started this morning and is 70% contained. Didn't hear acreage.

There is a fire in the De Luz canyon area of Fallbrook (Rice Canyon Fire) that is still very volatile, and and is bearing down on a friend of mine's home right now. He just had 30ft. flames burning brush about 1/2 mile from his place.

If the De Luz fire burns through, it may very well make it to the north east corner of Camp Pendleton. It's all hills and valleys in that area which make it tough to fight the fire. I've got a lot of friends out there giving me updates, and I just hope they stay safe."

and from another friend here in Denver (Air Force)

"I'm gonna head there Monday, we have two planes there now slurry bombing it. MAFFS is on baby.

The plane in the pic is ours. We have four planes dedicated to this. Tail numbers in orange are 2 and 5."

my uncle is in clairemont, fire all around within 15 miles. but hes ok

My Cousin and his family live in Long Beach (He is the VP of Gulfstream there). Still haven't heard from them unfortunately.
