Hi anybody know if a 0-470U will fit a 1975 182P. from New Zealand and looking for an engine with reasonable hrs still on it. cheers

the former N no. is N1745M it was flown to England around 85 then shipped to Aussie where we got it and shipped to NZ

I believe some late P models were factory shipped with O-470U, but I can't find my favorite reference document for the 182 history right at the moment. Our 1975 P model has an O-470S, the last low-compression version.

No, not without field approval. The 'U' engine was not installed until the 'Q' model.

He is in New Zealand, are you familiar with their regulatory agency and requirements?

I missed the part about it having a *former* N number. Either way, it wasn't approved by the manufacturer. I don't know what NZs rules are, but it's not plug-n-play if that's what he was asking.

I believe our club's C-182P has that engine installed. So, yes, with the proper paperwork and approvals it will work.

What's the difference between the 470U, and 470S?

The S turns 2600 RPM and is low-compression. The U is a higher compression and turns 2400. S has a 1500 hour TBO. U has 2000.

To be precise, the U *can* be 2,0000 hr TBO if the correct parts are installed at overhaul, typically for little or nominal more $.

20,000 eh? ;)

I thought there were factory new U's that met the requirements.

Can't say I've honestly researched much about the U, since I don't have one. ;)

Most S's make better than TBO but many have had cylinders replaced (ours had, long ago... Original owner apparently wasn't kind to it and replaced two jugs), and then they start making metal somewhere in the low end, and it's time to crack them open and get to work...
