So now that the UK has voted to withdraw from the EU, and the pound is crashing (currently down 10% to the dollar), it seems like there should be some great opportunities here for buying British "stuff".

But what? Rolls Royce? Spitfires? Downton Abbey tours of Highclere Castle? Jaguars?

Are there any UK-made GA planes?

Or just LSE traded stock - the FTSE is down 10%.

So combined with the GBP that's down 10%, you can pick up stock for 20% cheaper tomorrow than you could today. Maybe BP or NEXT?

What fun is THAT?

Pretty cheap to go over there and look for yourself.

It's not only the U.K. It's first if NI and Scotland stay in the U.K. Then, it's whether France stays in the EU. After that it's whether Germany wants to carry the rest of the Europe on it's own. Of course, it talks directly to U.S. voters sensibilities and our current election, too.
I agree the markets will recover. This is more about traders being on the wrong side of an issue than it is about fundamental value. Sure, some things will shift but not dramatically right away.
Is there a major aviation issue? None that I see right away. Maybe someone else can point out issues that might affect the rest of the aviation world. I don't know where UK is buying their military aviation hardware, but maybe this will give US firms a better chance to compete with the European conglomerates. But, I'm not into that scene so someone who follows it might coment.

Are you thinking the Euro is going to go up in value?

A 10% discount doesn't sound like that much of a reason to go on a spending spree.

There's going to be a lot of British investors taking it on the chin. The odds of Brexit being successful were only one in four, leading to a lot of complacency. My guess is that much like US investors sold personal possessions after the crash of 07-08, there's going to be a lot of nice "stuff" at fire sale prices in GB.

I saw we pool our money and get a container or two of

I am thinking Ford is going to be a smart buy shortly.

Isn't it obvious?
The UK votes for Brexit so the pound drops in value
So things priced in pounds are cheaper on the world market
This includes the box set of the Spice Girls greatest hit
Those things fly off the shelf
Victoria Beckham is rolling in royalties
Which she shares with her husband thereby bringing attention to his former soccer club the LA Galaxy
Making people remember the Ford Galaxie
Which causes Ford to restart production
And sales go through the roof

A tip of the hat to you, my friend!

Buy ale. Lots of British Ale. :p
Now you're talking!

In discussions with my Brit friends, it seems that they don't have a lot of homegrown manufacturing left. They do a lot of assembly work, but the components are sourced from everywhere, just like the US.

So, their 10% price advantage is largely illusory, unless you can find something that is 100% UK made.

Although I did learn that the most popular frozen pizza in the world is manufactured in the UK. Who knew? lol

But even with the devaluation of the pound, there are still places where US dollars go further right now. Canada and South Africa come to mind, although it costs quite a bit to get to South Africa...

Been in the UK lots of times and the £ has been $2.25, $1.50 and anything in between. After a couple of pints, who cares?

Going back again in Oct and who knows what the pound will be? Always a good time.

Cheers

Wonder how this will effect the price of canned spotted dick pudding? Love that stuff.

Glad to see the UK stand up and say enough is enough. I had a great time last night watching the results come in. I noticed that during ms. Merkals speech today, she never once mentioned the immigrants she has flooded Europe with as a possible reason for some of the unrest over there. She was just ****ed that England didn't want yo be friends with Germany for some reason?

Indeed.

It's also very interesting seeing the reactions of politicians over here.

NY times had a funny article, said folks who were for Britain getting out of the EU were uneducated old white people, but the folks who wanted to stay were "highly" educated younger folks lol.

Personally I think after the huddled paranoid masses quit piddling themselves over this, life will go on, UK isn't going to fall into ruin, the sky ain't falling. Long run I think it's a good thing for the UK, I wouldn't want to hitch my wagon to the sick horse of the EU.

Roger, roger. . .If the EU had done less social engineering, stuck more closely to economic activities, I believe there would be less resentment and pushback. They can't seem to grasp that social values and culture vary, and the "right thing" ain't universal. They really vilified those not happy with the Syrian influx, for example; a diffrent perspective doesn't equate to "evil". Like many liberal enclaves, much of EU official attitude is rigid, and intolerant of critcism.

Heck, even the Dali Llama said the best course for Syrians was to work to re-make Syria a livable place.

And the common currency on the mainland sure favored the conditions that got the PIGS in such deep trouble.

They've got Trump supporters in Britain? It's funny how media assumes that people that don't agree with them are ignorant! In our last local election a tea party guy got stomped in the primary, because "people didn't understand the issues" Sometimes people understand perfectly, they just disagree with what needs to be done. The open borders of the EU is great for travel, business etc, not so much for immigration. If you dig deep enough, I'll bet the two biggest issues in this were bailing out the failed socialist economies and the influx of people from Muslin countries. But, my family is from Ireland.

As always, Dennis Miller summed it up better than anyone:

"I guess the Brits got sick of walking under brollys in the rain to work while the Greeks sat under Cinzano umbrellas in the sun for three hour lunches."

The bottom line guys is that there's an opening in the EU. This is our chance.

If trump wins we could have a Trexit.

If Clinton wins we could have a Clexit.

But best of all...

If the dark horse Bernie wins we could have a Sexit!!!!

The northern members have a work ethic...the southern members don't. There are some extremely obvious parallels that could be drawn there....

...it's everywhere!

Kinda hard to sit around in the sun when there isn't any...

True that!

Bottom line: Northern people have always had to move fast or freeze to death, while Southerners die of heatstroke if they do the same.

Multiply times a hundred generations and you get a much slower pace of life in Southern climes.

The invention of air conditioning and massive population shifts are slowly changing that situation in the US.

It's gratifying to come on POA and see I'm not the only one who just sees opportunity when these big market crashes happen. Come on, this is England we're talking about. The world is still going to trade with them, we're just going to see some adjustments to tariffs and such here and there.

The market will recover eventually, the only trick is figuring out where the bottom is to time your buying right.

Everywhere in the northern hemisphere, maybe. It works the other way around in Australia.
