IMG_0865.jpegIMG_0866.jpeg“A float-equipped Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX was taxiing in waters in North Bimini, Bahamas, when the aircraft floats received damage that resulted in the aircraft becoming immobilized.
All ten persons on board were subsequently able to safely evacuate the aircraft.“

One picture I saw looked like pilot may of snagged a mooring ball.

Feel sorry for the pilot.

Everyone fiddling with cameras and luggage instead of getting TF out of the airplane. Luckily this time it didn’t sink, next time…

I was thinking that too .... and they person with the camera just kept rolling

Taxing close to that seawall. Wonder if they hit a submerged piling? You can see they hit something. Power out and put that B@$&% on the step and found me a sandbar.

Wonder if the pilots are Browns Alumni?

I think you are right that they hit a piling. No sure powering out would have made a difference as that plane started to list quickly.

I do love my Bahamian news though with the theatrics of “crash landings.”

“B’ey hit a tingum, muddastick!”

My first thought was I’m swimming if I was aboard then I thought of the girl fell off the dock in Bimini and got shark bit.
Decisions!

A step taxi was going to be a bit problematic, considering the port side float and struts were torn away from the airframe by the initial impact.

Aviation insurance losses and claims are up, driven by a severe string of high-value major incidents and rising repair costs. This follows what insurers term one of the worst large-loss years for the industry in over a decade. Insurance rates are going reflect the losses and claims made on them, hope for the best but be ready for a big increase in rates.

Being Bimini Tropic Air better have a crane barge moving that way right now if they want to salvage anything worthwhile. Also being Bimini they may have to " buy back" their Caravan.
