Best Resource for Sectionals & TACs?

I use the latest digital on a tablet for up-to-date info. This is free. I keep a 2nd tablet on hand along with my cellphone for backup. And then I buy a paper sectional once every 6-12 months or so for tertiary backup.

If you really need a paper chart, and are just using it for local flights**, then you can download the charts free at the FAA website, and print out that portion that you need to whatever scale works for you.

** I’m assuming that if you don’t have an EFB because it’s not worth it for your type of flying, then your flying is probably local, fun flights. Did I guess right?

I still get the local TAC and sectional on a subscription from mypilotstore.com - but, yea, seems every time I turn around I get a new chart that probably has exactly zero changes from the last.

I just feel better having the paper.
For longer trips, obsolete charts are good enough for backup.

Hey guys and gals, now that sectionals and TACs are coming out every 56 days the cost can add up. Where do you get yours? I’m thinking of signing up for an subscription at SkySectionals for $30. Do you know of a better source? Any discount codes you’d care to pass along? https://skysectionals.com/subscribe/sectionals-subscription/?subadd=SSF
Okay, now I'm confused. I was thinking you were ordering paper charts (and wondering why) but then I go to your link and see these are downloads?

So, why are you paying for these when they're free from the FAA?
https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/flight_info/aeronav/digital_products/vfr/

And free to peruse on the web:
https://skyvector.com/

And free on many EFB apps for tablet and phone.

Am I missing something here?

You do realize that a current sectional chart is not a regulatory requirement for Part 91?

Also if you are going paper you should also have the Chart Supplement.

There are free VFR charts you can put on your smart phone.

Whoa, yeah, I didn't click on the link and assumed printed charts were being ordered.

Why would anyone pay for downloadable charts? You already paid for them with your taxes, and they're free from the FAA (in multiple formats too).

I'm not sure what this company is selling. Are they adding anything of value to justify paying for what otherwise is a free download?

Wait, what?

On an unrelated note, does anyone have any discount codes for my PoA subscription?
