Say, I used to go hang out at Thun all the time when I lived in Washington. Is Avidyne still based there?

I don't know. I haven't flown into Thun yet. The N number checks out to a C-182Q in the area.

That looks like the perfect off-airport landing spot - kind of like those sand-filled barrels on the interstate highways.

If I read the article right if the motor quits and faced with the choice of making the runway or landing on a porta potty I should choose the latter because the landing will be "softer"?
