Can anyone please tell me what the "TSO " stands for and what exactly does it do or benefit ?

technical standard order.

The FAA, along with manufacturers, come up with minimum performance standards that define a TSO number. This known performance standard can be used as the certification basis for installation of equipment on certified aircraft.

FAA has TSO xxx laid out for equipment __________.

A manufacturer chooses to build equipment ___________, then decides to have it tested to the TSO performance minimums, assuming it passes and the manufacturer has an acceptable FAA quality control program set up, may receive a letter from the FAA that they are authorized to manufacture their product and mark it with the TSO number it was tested to.

Thank you !!!!! I searched on Internet and couldn't find anything on this .

The KX-155A, assuming the entire installation of the radio conforms to the installation manual, including the antennas, cabling, any antenna spitters or duplexers and indicators, is TSOed to C37d, C38d, C36e, C40c and C34e.

TSO C37d - VHF Radio communication Transmitting Equipment Operating within the radio frequency range of 117.975 to 137.00 Megahertz.

You can use these TSOs listed in the installation manuals to compare equipment. The lastest and greatest TSOs for com radio include frequency block protection would stop a stuck microphone from blocking a frequency. My old dumb radio that was new in 1998 does not have such a thing. If the mic were stuck it would just keep transmitting.
