Bad parking spot

This past weekend in Anchorage was the start of the Iditarod. Thousands flocked to downtown to watch the event and cheer on the mushers.

The guy on the PA system, in between introducing the mushers and cracking corny jokes, had this to say:

"Attention folks, we have a bit of a parking situation. On the corner of 3rd and A, if you are parked on the helicopter pad, please move your vehicle. The helicopter pad is full of vehicles. Corner of 3rd and A. You will be towed."

Talk about a bad parking decision...

Or they could haul them away and blow them up like the National Guard did with this truck at the Fargo Airshow. I didn't get a good shot of the drop, but it was pretty cool.

I hope the Iditarod goes well for all and no dogs or mushers get injured too badly or lost.

They do that every year at the Gathering of Warbirds at OLM. Phony PA announcements about an illegally parked car and all that. Then a Huey comes flying in with a car slung below which they drop on the grass along one of the taxiways from several hundred feet. Car usually lands on its wheels and collapses to about 1/4 of its original height. Great fun.

What do you need the whole pad for anyway. Just get a rope and anchor and leave it running.

The big "H" mark must have looked like parking space dividers...
