Hello,

I have a certified aircraft that has its avionics removed (all glass), SL30 (just needs sliding into caddy), GNS430 (just needs sliding into a caddy) and a 696 (needs usb plug, external gps plug connected and line out 3.5mm jack inserted).

Who is legally allowed to do this and certify it back into service? A&P? IA? AET? Is there a FAR on this?

TIA.

Is there a log entry stating they were removed?

rhetorical question.

Considering it's a TC'd aircraft you would be better served by asking the AP/IA who is/will maintain it for you. Way too vague to offer any answers.

Without knowing the circumstances under which they were removed, I'm hesitant to offer advice.

But, it is my understanding that, while the owner cannot make repairs to installed avionics, he/she may remove and reinstall certain "tray-mounted" avionics components (not transponders or autopilots) without the assistance of an A&P.

FAR 43, Appendix A, Paragraph (c).31.

As far as the 696, I would think the panel dock is functionally like tray mounted avionics. And, plugging in the cord should be a non issue as long as you're not messing with any fixed wiring.
