So I just got a new truck (2007 Metallic Orange Colorado) andeffective this year Michigan is changing over their white on blue license plates to a blah blue on white one. They also have a bunch of specialty plates. I've decided on the Spectacular Peninsula one, but am going to go with an aviation themed license plate. I've kicked around a couple ideas, but would like to see what the PoA brain trust might come up with for me.

Here's a couple I came up with:

http://services1.sos.state.mi.us/pl...;SQWKVFR&manPlate=SQWKVFR&vtype=&ptrn=AAAAAAA

http://services1.sos.state.mi.us/pl...PI;FLY6Y9&manPlate=FLY 6Y9&vtype=&ptrn=AAA9A9

http://services1.sos.state.mi.us/pl...;15G25KT&manPlate=15G25KT&vtype=&ptrn=99A99AA

http://services1.sos.state.mi.us/pl...lt=PPI;CAVU&manPlate=CAVU &vtype=&ptrn=AAAA

What can you come up with?

get a "Great Lakes Splendor" plate and go with N2212R

OMG your vanity plates are expensive, Mike. I paid $25 for my FUUFNF plates in New Hampshire, land where almost everything is too expensive.

I like the 15G25KT one and I like the FLY 6Y9 one. Too bad, LOWWNGR is taken as is LOWWING. But I also like FLY26Y9

DMNYNKY is not available, but

DMBYNKY is.

Go figger....:p

Yeah, the block out a few letter combinations. For Seinfeldians, "ASSMAN" is not available.

Here's one for you Nick.

LOL - did you photoshop that?

btw - A9999A is available as a Great Lakes Splendor plate - how do you get one of those?

C'Mon! New Hampshire is practically tax free.

IL raised the base license plate fee to $90 a few years ago in one of the many ways to raise money for "Dat state dat works" fer dem wit clout, without raising the income tax which is the third rail in IL. The SOS had signs everywhere in the office that said it wasn't him that raised the fee, so don't blame him. He also has signs "Do not abuse our employees." I guess if it goes the other way, it's OK, although my last trip to the office was very pleasant and that was in Chicago.

No, I didn't photoshop, I could actually get that plate if I wanted. I don't see the Splendor plate as being available for personalization.

I ask because the 0 and the W seemed to be odd shaped and different colored....

Maybse some kind of copy protection from MI DOT?

Or...their generator just sucks. It's just a preview after all.

well, as with aviation, they don't have an OSCAR in the license plates, so all Oscars become zeros.

Maybe this one would be the best choice:

BTW Ed why is Michigan putting a silhouette of the Golden Gate bridge on their license plates?

LOL!

Lest anyone thinks he's serious, it's the Mackinac (pronounced MAK-ih-naw) Bridge. Not sure, but it might actually be longer than the Golden Gate.

I think you are right about that. Wanna bet how many people will think it is the Golden Gate though?? ;)

BTW I vote for Indiana as having the worst plates in the midwest. My least favorite slogan "Crossroads of America". Shoot why not just say 'Indiana: Keep on driving"

Indiana: The rest of us don't smell like Gary, well, not quite like Gary.

agreed on that... that's why I have my Ball State plates on my truck..

not just the slogan, the whole design, color is bad... when they came out with the latest design, many people were all upset about the fact that the state website address was ont he plates, so they were putting some kind of sticker to cover that part of the plate up... it didn't help much, and I'm not really even sure why that was an issue for anybody...

FWIW

Total length of the Mackinac Bridge = 26,372 feet

The length of the suspension bridge (including anchorages) is 8,614 feet.

Total length of the Golden Gate Bridge including approaches = 8,981 ft

Length of suspension span including main span and side spans = 6,450 ft

That is funny right there. I bet everyone driving behind that car would say "Sigh, it sure is."

But Michigan sure is beautiful during the summer. At least, Sidnaw is, that's really the only place I've been up there.

Sidnaw isn't really in Michigan, it is in the UP and that is a whole 'nother country.

Is it really?? I thought we were still in the lower peninsula. Well in that case, the UP is gorgeous!

It's interesting that Alaska (the supposed #1 GA state) doesn't have a specialty plate for aviation. I guess I'll have to be satisfied with my plate frame - "My other car is an airplane." :D

Did we cross Lake Michigan? lol

and yes..it is gorgeous...in the summer :)
