I got an offer from Aviation Consumer for long-term renewal - up to 5 years for $320. I'm a long time subscriber but just kind of curious why this extra long-term renewal program?

I assume if they go belly up my money is gone.

Seeing how you can get one year subscriptions for $36 a year straight from their website right now it seems like you would be getting ripped off by going with a 5 year deal for $320. Even if the price doubled after the first year for the next 4 years you would still be paying the same as the 5 year deal. They are offering it to you because it costs them nothing beyond their current deal and there is no risk in it for them. You hold all the risk. If they go belly up or turn into an online magazine only your money is gone. If they lower their rates or offer promotional deals you can’t opt in because you are locked into a 5 year deal. I don’t see any upside to taking them up on the 5 year deal.
