Av Checklist App

Are you asking for app recommendations? ForeFlight has a checklist app, but it hasn't been updated in years. I wish they would integrate this function with the main app.

I like my ipad, but Id leave the checklist on a laminated half sheet of paper if I were you. It's more widley a way of handling it.

I created a multi page PDF of my custom made checklist then loaded it into the Documents section of Foreflight on my ipad with a backup on my iphone (plus a printed copy in the glove box).

Looked about a year ago and could not find a good app that could be customized the way I wanted.

+1 on laminated papyrus. Easier/faster to grab, find the appropriate section, and make use.

I should have mentioned, Lear45XR, everything else
Including Manuals is on I-Pad.

Multi page?!
Yeah. Mine is multi-page too.

It used to be single page for normal operations. Then, as I started flying more different aircraft, I began to add information on the differences between until it became more of a personal quick reference guide with the actual (very condensed) checklist being only a part of it.

Once it got on my iPad, I decided that, other than bragging rights about whose is shortest, there was no reason to force myself to small print and single pages when larger print with a lot of white space was so much more useful as backup check to the flow pattern I use in flight.

To the original post: Look at electronic checklists. There are a number of free ones out there and plenty of videos available showing how the main contenders (including Garmin's panel GPS and G1000) work. I really don't like them that much because I find the typical one-at-at-me read and do most are designed for much more cumbersome and time-consuming than glancing at a page (with a lot of white space on it). Of course YRMV.

Doesn't your checklist have to be approved by the feds?

No approvals needed, Part 91.
We have two Challenger 300's that have the checklists
in the MFD's, when you toggle through the color of the
Item changes. Lear has something similar but it doesn't work
well and is very expensive to change. Looking for something
similar in a I-Pad app.
It's somewhat interesting that none of these airplanes has
anything paper from the factory.

I use the same setup, with the only difference being that my printed copy is in the side pocket and opened to the emergency section. If things go bad, I can reach over and grab the paper checklist and be looking at emergency procedures in no time. (It'd be quite a bit slower to find the exact page I wanted in Foreflight.)

Maybe. My PDF is bookmarked. Even if not, how many pages are we talking about? Doubtful a 1 second difference is going to affect the outcome in those situations that go beyond the immediate action items.

Yup. I have a page for each phase of startup, flight and shutdown. Just open the document in foreflight which is mounted on my yoke and scroll as I go. I attached a copy if you want to steal the idea!
Nice design. But way too much detail for me. Strictly personal viewpoint but my sense is checklists that are that long with arguably unnecessary detail (at least one hopes you don't really need a checklist to tell you to put the throttle in full for takeoff! :)) is one of the reasons checklists don't get used by a lot of piots.

That's one of the reasons I don't publish mine. The condensing of tasks is too personalised. A friend of mine once tried to use mine. He was used to more detail and my "Switches...... PRN" meant nothing to him.

That is why I prefer a custom checklist for me...cuz guess what, I have taken off more than once with the passenger door not locked and had to abort takeoff (rather was able to abort and fix). Now it is on my checklist.

I landed last week to find my baggage door unlocked and open...even though it IS on my list....DOH!

Do I need to be reminded every flight of every item...nope. But there have been plenty of times that there has been a change in routine with new passengers or unexpected situations where I need to make sure that all the points got hit!

Absolutely! Great advantage of a personalized checklist is not only to condense what you don't need but to add and expand what you do. The problem I see is when one has a bunch of stuff there that one doesn't need reminders for; my experience is that too many pilots don't look at the checklist at all.

One would think that something as simple as starting the engine wouldn't need a checklist. But when you fly multiple makes/models with some significant differences in (especially fuel injected) start-up procedures, nice to have a quick reminder. So mine have start-up procedures.

My favorite customization was by a student of mine. He was having the common error of neutralizing the ailerons on rollout on a crosswind landing. Then one day, he showed me the new version of his checklist - with a reminder to turn ailerons into the wind right there in his before landing checklist.
