No, not "towellie" high...I had a perfect tailwind yesterday, and the higher I climbed the better it got. My ol' Cherokee 140 "Gigi" surprised me, climbing quite well to 17500 (GPS 16550). Interesting note: the OAT (at altitude) was -40*!!!

172kts groundspeed. Nice!

Hmmm, POH service ceiling on mine is a bit lower. :skeptical:

Service ceiling is where it can still climb 100'/minute. Clearly the absolute ceiling on this one is higher...

Supposed to be at gross weight too right?

Airplanes tend to do well with less weight in them lol. Not to mention conditions better than standard atmosphere.

I did not know this. So why do they bother putting service ceilings in a book if its different depending upon where you fly?

Both were in my favor last night...it was just me, fuel at about 1/3 tanks, and very low DA.

I didn't pay much attention to total-time-to-climb because I did it in steps, but I did notice over 1000 fpm at take off climb (best ever), over 500 fpm to about 10000, and still showed 175 fpm at 16500.
