I know Florida is full. Bugs everywhere, gators that eat dogs, and iguana's that fall from trees when it gets cool. But I grew up there, went to school there (Go Gators!) and now that the kids are off to college, the business is sold, and I'm cold it's time to move back. With my history there the application was approved quickly, just had to upload new pictures of my dogs and guns to get my Florida Man card back. Easy peasy.

Bought a house in Winter Garden, got a hangar in Kissimmee (KISM) and I'm heading back at the end of the year. Couple questions for the locals:

Looking for a good EAA chapter, any recommendations near Orlando?

Any recommendations or warnings for maintenance at ISM? There seem to be a lot of options. The A/C on the Seneca is broke so that will become pretty important.

Other thoughts/recommendations/warnings?

I can't comment on the airplane part. Have you bought a golf cart yet, and sold your long pants?

Joking aside, glad you have the opportunity to back home, and that you're looking forward to it.

Lived just near there for a couple years but moved away about a year and a half ago. I enjoy the seasons too much, central Florida was essentially year round spring and summer to me. No fall, and maybe 1-2 days a year of warm winter. I know a lot of people enjoy that aspect though. I do happen to have a masters from UF, so go gators. Wish our football team was doing better though.

Never made it significantly into the aviation scene there unfortunately, so will defer to other members. Hope you enjoy being back though!

If you want to meet pilots Arcadia Florida holds a Taco Tuesday every week with discounted fuel prices and several food trucks. X06

Welcome home! I'm just down the road from you, hangared in Winter Haven. I did my flight training in Apopka. I lived in Winter Garden for a while in the early '80s and don't even recognize the place any more.

We have an EAA chapter at KGIF and I've been to a few meetings, but it's not terribly active. There might be a chapter at KLAL; I used to get emails from them but haven't for a while.

Thanks! Looking forward to it.

Yeah, Winter Garden is considered by many to be the least "Florida" city in central FL, but SWMBO is Korean and there's a lot of her people in the area so.......

I'll probably just bounce around EAA chapters for a bit. I'm not bringing my CH750 project down right away so I'll look around and see what fits.

I went to flight school in Sanford,FL.

When I was finished, I drove 16 hours straight with only 3 stops to get home. I wanted, needed out that bad.

Pro: Lots of race tracks.

Con: Too flat. Too many folks. Too many frogs that would serenade me all night. During entire IFR training only got .2 actual. Folks thought BBQ was made with pork.....yeech.!!

Come up here, but not in the fall or winter time*. I have 4.2 actual, and I'm not done with training yet.

*unless you want to log "actual icing". Then fall or winter would be perfect.

Got your bbq gun yet?
I do.

So when I read the thread it occurred to me that I hadn't really thought which one should be my designated BBQ gun though. I went through my toy box and concluded that none of them really fits. They are all black, small (9mm) and concealable. Even my holsters are low-key. I also somehow realized I didn't have a 1911 which hurt my feelings since that was my first sidearm in the military.

Great News! I have an excuse to buy a new one. So i went to grab-a-gun ($PEW) and found a Block Island Arsenal 1911A1 in brushed nickel with mother of pearl grips (is my inner NO pimp showing?) and had it shipped to my local FFL. It fires great, still looking for the appropriate holster.

Aviation twist though: When the FFL did the instant check it glitched and denied me. WTF? It had been less than 30 days from my last one. It is not a problem with a CCL but it didn't pick that up so they re-run and I had approval a minute later. Took it to the range and all was well.... or so I thought. The next morning I got an email from DHS, based on the minute long denial they revoked my pre-check and Global Entry. I filled out the online request for reconsideration and will get it back when they process it. The revocation took a couple hours but the restoration is expected to take 8-10 months. Gurrr..... I still have Clear and it works great. You don't hate ATF enough.

Grumble. 10 months is nuts.

Looking forward to seeing the 1911, though!

Had enough ice experience during the Alaska years, including summers. Yes, ice is possible in the summer.

Then went to New Mexico. Hard to get any actual with 409 sunny days a year...

But yes, I would have had a whole lot more confidence on my first solo IFR flight if I had some actual with an instructor during training.

Yup, Got here last weekend. My Seneca is still in VA though. Probably going back to get it in a week or two, the weather really stinks back there though.

Lovin it so far, moving sucks though.

Been busy, my son took advantage of being here and added his ASES to his commercial rating at Jack Brown's. BTW, they have an Air Cam now and will be doing AMEL add-ons as soon as the FAA approves....on my short list.

Terrific! Let me know sometime when you’re at Brown’s and we’ll grab a cup of coffee at GIF. Maybe we can get @bflynn to join us.

After @Ed Haywood gets back, we’ll have to plan a meet-up for the Florida POA peeps. Maybe do Taco Tuesday at Arcadia or grab breakfast at Sebring or something. There’s a great restaurant at Ocala.

I'm up for that.
