Those two I could live with forever.

And how about(below)? (Eamon did them for me several years ago. The basis was taken from my camera store advertising)

So who has the Groucho Avatar that's so offensive

You know, there's one avatar that really offends me...

... MINE! I do not have any scenery nearly so beautiful here, and it offends me that you folks up in the PNW get to fly in such a beautiful area without having to go 1200+ nm to get there. :cheerswine:

BTW, here's the full-size pic:

I knew it was him a spin, I was just thinking..so. most of the aviation avatar strike me that way. I like avatars that are funny and show a different part of someone that we may not already know. Obviously people on this board like aviation, so what else makes you an interesting person? That is what I think the avatar is for. But I also understand that other people may not share that feeling. in fact there are some who may not like any avatar at all. Is this world wonderful that we all do not have to be the same nor comform to the identical set of likes and dislikes?

I couldn't agree more. I, for one, look forward to seeing what you put up next. I've always thought of them as fun and irreverent. Hell, I even liked the flyball avatar! The evil Santa was a little creepy but...

I don't get the problem.

My only concern, as to only the one avatar, was that it was so much motion with a large moving field, that it was visually distracting, even disorienting, when it was anywhere on-screen.

Avatar content and inherent commentary are very rarely objectionable, nor in most instances do I feel it my place to object.

I know its a moot point now, but IIRC, in internet explorer, you can stop all animated gifs by pressing escape after the page finishes loading.

But this is Pilots of America, not Pilots of North Korea.

What are those avatars disrespectful of?

I can't speak for the guy and his motivations, but it doesn't bother me. I really don't know him enough to know if it is a political message, a joke, or just a way to have his posts stand out. If he seems to be a nice guy, watch his posts & maybe you can become friendly enough to ask him yourself about motivations.

I'm much more concerned about the steady erosion of our freedoms through recent TSA actions (proposed or being implemented) or through taxes and the apparent purchase of our government by large corporations.

I'm just not seeing avatars being the massively important social commentary that warrants a comparison to standing next to someone's grave. But that might just be me.

Avatars being a representation of a person, or their alter ego, I chose mine carefully. There are others on here who choose differently for different reasons and I tend to enjoy the jokes. Some also choose to mock or startle or offend, but I feel that any objection just encourages that activity, so I try to respect their choices by not commenting. That said, some avatars do offend me.

BTW, soon I will go back to the B&W image as I don't really like the red and blue one.

Dogs are probably offended by my avatar. Mice too. Maybe even cats since she is upside-down...

Skyhog, It was about RESPECT. Knowing when something is or is'nt in an appropriate place. I like porn. But this does'nt seem like an appropriate place for an avatar that might reflect that.

Dale- there is the Spin Zone for that sort of comment. Some of the things I am concerned about were done in the last administration, that's as far as I'm going to go.

Take this sort of dicussion to the spin zone. If you chose to respond further along these line in this particular forum, I will not respond. There are some rules on this board that indicate that political discussions should be taken to the Spin Zone.

Unfortunately, Dale, while those members here who think the new President is the greatest thing to happen to this country are allowed to run rampant on this forum, those of us on the other side of the aisle are stepped on pretty hard when we say anything outside the Spin Zone. You're likely to feel that boot on your neck soon.

On your last flight physical did you tell the AME that you can't remember the last eight years?   I'm pretty sure that's reportable!

I will abide by the discussion rules, Although I have never heard of this
''SPIN ZONE'' area that you speak of.

Tom, If you believe that the last 8 yrs set you up for whats coming, Sorry,You're just a sad sheep.

Capt'n Jack, if living your life in fear and not having the guts to say anything more about it than that, Then we really have nothing more to discuss anyway. I'll chose to lead the herd.

Apparently irony is dead in America. I guess I didn't get the memo.:dunno:

Flyersfan31, Sorry for not asking about it directly. I actually did ask a few posts ago ( in flight following),but I guess You did'nt see it. BTW, I like and appreciate the bottom one! (American)

That they do. It would be interesting to see it go down. The trick would be maintaining control of the military--which wouldn't be easy when you ask them to fight their family and friends.

Likely, control of the military as one unit would be lost. The military would probably fight amugust themselves. Shortly thereafter, the fancy military technology would soon become worthless, as there is so much required infrastructure to support it. Soon...the terms would be more balanced.

It is really amazing how fast our fancy high-tech world can be knocked 100 years back.

You like to think so. Still, a Longbow Apache platoon, or an Abrahms platoon, can do plenty o'damage with or without fancy technology.

I reallllllllllllly don't see a Joe Sixpack (or Joe the Plumber) militia armed with AR15s posing any more threat than the Polish Cavalry did to the Blitzkrieg.

That is exactly right. That is if they could really be bothered int eh first place. My guess is that they day they need to rise up were to ever come there would be a really good NASCAR race on TV and they would be too busy. One thing about our country is that we have invented many ways to avoid actually carrying about any real issue and instead just manufacture controversy to rail about.

Dale- I really don't know what to make of you!

I only said that the discussion had turned in such a direction that it should go to the spin zone.

You really don't know me - I do vote and I do write my elected officials and make contributions to notices of proposed rule making. I don't know how you can support the comment that you made. I was tempted to make a comment along the lines of Scott's, but backed off because I wasn't in the spin zone.

If you chose to lead the herd, please do it without ad hominem posts and in the proper forum. I doubt the herd of cats here will follow you.

Under our current rules for Spin, threads that drift into Spin Zone territory get closed, not moved.

Y'all can put the thread back on topic, or we can close it....

I note that another avatar that tended to make me dizzy now just berates me for wasting five seconds of my life. This thread has wasted a lot more than that!

At that rate, it should have been closed a long time ago.

Cap'n Jack, Sorry bout' that. I re-read the whole post exchange and now I understand what you were trying to say Reguarding the spin zone. When I first read it, I thought you were saying that you were basically refusing to answer my question. A simple misunderstanding.
