Of course we need the melons there, who is going to make sandwiches and clean?

come on folks....must we be so sensitive?o_O

Considering the fact, in a white male dominated industry/hobby/forum, that sexist tropes are still prevalent, yeah. We must.

Anyway, OSH21 was great. One observation that I was particularly happy to see (and coincidentally on sub-topic): diversity.

At my first Oshkosh nearly a decade ago, it was about halfway through my visit (ashamed it took THAT long...) that I noticed that I hadn't seen a single person that wasn't white, and that the overwhelming majority of the people there (that weren't exhibitors) were men.

We still have a long way to go, but seeing greater numbers of non-white, non-male aviators this year (especially in the forums) was uplifting.

Another observation... holy smokes was it PACKED (at least before the Wednesday storms). Was stunned to see Camp Scholler was just PACKED, despite the significant expansion that has been happening.

Loved the Shuttle Astronaut forum at Theater in the Woods. Super cool stuff.

Gee Steve, how long are people going to beat this dead horse. If you want diversity, move EAA to another country and away from this one that is 64% white as of the 2010 census if you want instant changes:confused::eek:

Your "diversity" will happen as a natural event over time ... the diversity of the NBA seems to have changed since the 1950's:eek:

That... was my point. The diversity is happening, albeit slowly.

Non-hispanic whites make up 60.7% of the population. 88.4% of pilots in this country are white. So, there is still a gap, but it's closing.

Women make up just over 50% of the population. Yet less than 7% of licensed pilots are women. Lots of work to do there.

Not sure why you feel so threatened by diversity.

I'm not threatened at all, the medical field is as diverse as it gets ... I was trying to help YOU with your problem.

My point is you started howling about diversity problems ... do something about it! You're probably flying solo 90% of the time, offer someone a ride that might not otherwise get to enjoy GA. I do every chance I get so you can step off the "threatened" comment and take a dose of your own medicine ...

This is only a problem if you see being a pilot as a good thing.
