The woman announcing the DeHavilland Vampire keeps saying that it is the first jet fighter. That distinction goes to the Me-262 which saw action toward the end of WWII. It's not even the first BRITISH jet fighter. That goes to the Gloster Meteor which also saw a touch of action at the closing days of the war.

The stuff thrown out by airshow announcers is best ignored by people who actually follow aviation. It is designed for Ma and Pa Kettle who spend an afternoon taking the grandkids to the airshow every few years.

Didn't she say it was the first single engine jet fighter, though?

First British single engine jet fighter. A few P-80s were used in Italy at the close of WW2, and two were being flown by the USAAF in England.

A few He-162s flew combat missions. (With its record, if the Germans had more, we would have won the war a little bit sooner.)

Or maybe they just made a mistake.

They make the mistake multiple times in EVERY demonstration. They're either lying or they are idiots. Neither makes them look good.

Ethical question: Is somebody lying when they don't care about the facts, and just say whatever sounds good to them?
