Airports disappear off satellite systems

Well that's frightening that this could just happen:

Airports disappear off satellite systems

I know this is South Africa and I'm sure this is an oversight or maybe even just a glitch, but still.

The jest of it is that Jeppesen (data provider) removed them from the next round of GPS database updates because the airport survey data was expired, a survey report that I'm sure is not Jeppesen's responsibility. Only if Jepessen released a nav data update with them missing and you physically updated your GPS data base would they "disappear".

Its a scare article. :dunno:

Oh, I realize it's a scare article, but I find it interesting that this can happen. Not pointing fingers...just surprised at the possibility. I'm sure someone could make a case for "all of your eggs in one basket" based on something like that. Paperwork does get lost or (in this case) surveys do expire, so are there checks & balances in our system in the United States?
