Airport access... Seriously?

I guess in order to visit my plane, I now need to get the governments permission to do so. I was handed a wad of government forms to fill out to get my badge and truck decal, have the guy who runs the hangars sign it take it over to the main terminal then schedule an hour long "appointment" with the TSA to watch a video before they'll issue it. YGBFSM.

Had to do that years ago.....

Is anyone going to actually check this badge before going to the flight line? Signature at SAV apparently had this requirement but I kept my aircraft on the flight line for months without having one. Not like anyone behind the counter would actually check anyway.
 
Are you basing at SAV

Two years ago, I paid $140 for a TSA Transportation worker's credential where I had to go to wilmington, get photographed, retina scan, fingerprints, answer "not a terrorist" questionnaire and present my passport and two other forms of ID. This was for a USCG captain's license.

When I wanted to get an ID badge to access my plane tied down on the ramp at RDU, they would not accept my previous TSA issued ID and I had to pay and apply AGAIN
 
Move to an airport that isn't fenced, build an airport that isn't fenced, sell the plane and buy a boat, or get used to it, cause it will only get worse...
 
At KLBE, we have always needed an ID (ours operate the gates), but with the expansion of Spirit Airlines and the TSA presence the last couple years, they are now requiring vehicle decals as well. Other than the yearly update on the ID, it's not a real big deal. But in my case, it's all I've known.
 
Worst part is the bad guys will just rent a car and drive it right through the fence....:mad2::mad2::mad::(

I don't use an airport with those requirements, bet there were rumors a couple years ago.

Do you have to pay for this 'feature'? Do you have to renew your clearance each year or two?
 
Yes, it's Signature at KSAV, the next closest airport is an hour drive away, on a military base, where I moved from, and we didn't have any of this, I guess when the other planes are unmanned and armed, they're not as worried about Bonanzas. Yes, this feature cost me $22.00

Well, there's a couple that I can think of that do, luckily, they're not very good at their chosen trade.
 
It always amuses me to go thru the kabuki dance for various agencies even though I have had a TS SBI Clearance for over 30 years.:D

Nor do they usually have criminal records of any sort, actually; which is just another reason why all these DHS / TSA background check requirements are bull****. The Stasi Homeland Security can set whatever standards they want, and it won't make a difference to our security. Al Qaeda et. al. will just make sure that the bombers they select for missions behind secure perimeters meet the requirements and have the credentials.

It's all just a lot of bull**** that accomplishes nothing other than to provide jobs to wanna-be cops who are too stupid and lazy to be real ones, just like everything else that's come out of that modern-day Stasi we call DHS.

Please pardon this basic question, how does this badging requirement work for transients? Do they just go through an FBO to get access to their plane?

I bet they CHOOSE not to honestly fill in their "I Am Not A Terrorist" form, too. That in itself will completely flummox the TSA fry cooks.

It amuses me that I have a badge and decal that allows me to drive my truck and myself into the airport, I already have broad sweeping access to the airport, just not this particular gate. No, I'm not kidding. There is nothing that would stop me from just walking or driving my truck over from the building next door (Other than it's a bit of a walk and I'd have to cross a taxiway)

The truly sick thing is that when I was given an AEC Q clearance because of my work at Sandia Labs and LLNL in 1975, I had to do less paperwork and listen to less lectures.
 
This DHS/TSA horse manure is just one more reason why I sold my airplane.

Enjoy that one hour training video.

See if you can spot the number of non-security procedure errors.

If your airport access is like mine, you'll love the fact that a badged person can escort someone who never had a badge (and therefore has never had a background check) or even someone who had their badge taken away but not someone who left their badge at home (and therefore has passed a current background check).
 
My home field has a fence around approximately 40% of the perimeter. The access point nearest my hangar has a keypad for gate activation. I can walk around the end of the fence and arrive at my hangar in about 2 minutes longer than it takes if I enter the security code and drive to the hangar.

Security theater indeed...

Lock the cabin doors on airliners. Problem solved. Oh, wait, we already did that and still have a multi-multi- billion dollar bureaucracy trying to make the world safer. Aargh.

If they even bother. I regularly fly into an airport with commercial service and "gold-level" FBO's that shall remain nameless for now, and just walk right through the FBO and onto the tarmac to my plane, they don't even have the pushbutton for the door, just an automatic door and nobody has asked to check my ID or escort me in the last year or better.

Sure, I'm a frequent visitor there and they know me - but rules are rules (even if they are stupid) and the rules are being broken every day.

"have to be" is such a strong phrase.. "supposed to be" would be a better choice of words.

They never escort me to my plane when I park at KSTS.

That's why I don't fly there, too - the $50 badge etc.

My airport (untowered) only recently put up fences. And we leave the gates open all the time such as display days or monthly dinners.
 
Maybe I should share some of my "antics" that really pi$$ed off the SS...

Some were absolute classics too..:yes:;)

Please share. Anything that tweaks the people who like to try and control us works for me. I must be getting more anti-authority in my old age. :D
