In one shot the guy is playing with Foreflight on his iPad and GPS, then 2 mins later they're totally lost and don't know where they are (and no iPad in sight). Meanwhile another guy is parachuting out of a plane and shots clearly show him decending on a big airport where I assume they filmed the jump. Then the shot cuts to him gathering his parachute on the ground in the grass after supposedly landing at a "highly secure remote small private airpark."

Meanwhile the Baron is apparently crippled and needs to make an emergency landing on a road but then they abort, do a go around in this supposedly crippled airplane and continue on to land at an airport.

Also, I love how everyone seems to just leave the keys to their plane/boat on said plane boat so they can just get in and fire the thing up. The show is sort of funny and has airplanes in it so I do occasionally watch, but calling it fake is an understatement. The editing is so bad at times they struggle to make it look even remotely real

A previous episode also introduced the PA-28 as an exclusive small business transport plane for executives. I love the Cherokee but that just cracked me up.

You could have bitch slapped him for making all pilots look like idiots. It would have been justifiable assault at Oshkosh. ;)

He would probably have enjoyed it. He's a friendly guy and likes to talk about airplanes and flying.

I guess one could look at it that way. Keep in mind though, he is not the one doing the editing. He said he sees it for the first time when you and I see it. He said that he might see a little bit of the unedited stuff on the camera monitor.

Kevin is a really nice guy that most any pilot would enjoy visiting with.

Also, a number of non pilots I know, watch the show and have no idea that there is any stupid crap on there.

My wife likes it. She will do nothing aviation related with me. But she will watch this show. So its a winner for me. When I see some of the things mentioned here, I say nothing and let her enjoy the show as it is.

I follow Keven Lacey on youtube. He has a youtube channel.

Flying the Baron into the airport, they're calling themselves a "Cherokee" on the radio.

They probably used audio from another episode. Their editors are pretty sloppy.

They could benefit from having an actual pilot advise them so as to at least avoid the obvious mistakes. But Discovery doesn't care.

    It's a fun show. That's all I care about.

I'm pretty sure the normal routine is :
find the airplane (which is made easy when planes file flight plans)
call sheriff just in case, call owner, show them the paperwork,
get in plane and fly it away,

I like to know if the $ they mention is realistic, 10% finder's fee, thats serious money for business jet

It has airplanes, shysters, one semi-hot chick, and a roided out tatoo'd scumbag looking type guy so it covers all the bases.

    Almost.

Next season they'll introduce a black homo or a lesbian reaper. Then they'll be covered.

I am curious about the finders fees mentioned as well. They seem _way_ over the top.

Anyone in the airplane repo business know what the going rate is?

Information from an actual repo guy:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/14/business/14repo.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

The guys at the top of the game are making big bucks:

    http://www.salon.com/2009/06/06/lear_jet_repo_man/

I think the above article is about the same guy who was the original subject of "Airplane Repo"...back when the show was a documentary series.

The way it usually works the guy who repos it is also the one who will sell it. They'll repay the bank a percent and keep a percent for their services.

If he repos a larger jet, he can make 600k-900k it says. So I'd assume 100-300k for a business jet is actually realistic.

We need to cut the show a little slack. After all, where else can you get so much education for free? I learned from the last episode that a Cessna 210 goes 250MPH with a 1,000 mile range.

    Nothing like continuing education.

I learned not to keep your logbooks in the hangar with the plane, so if somebody does repo steal it, it will be worth only a fraction of its price.

    I've seen a few episodes.

The one that made me laugh the most was the one where they snuck into a farm hangar to repo a 206. The delinquent owner was outside next to his vehicle with a shot gun.

The cowboyish guy says to his companion "why don't you run outside and draw his fire while i get this thing started up?"

His friend does a double take and says "i don't like that plan at all" Duh

Yes, sales commission / parting it out pays. It's also a lot more work.

I'd find it hard to believe 100-300k just for picking up and dropping off a plane though.

    Tonight is the ultimate!

Going after a T-33, the owner offer Kevin Lacey a ride just after meeting him and proceeds to do an impromptu air show with Lacey in the back seat right over the airport. No charge, no clearance, just because you look like a nice guy.

Meanwhile, one of the other teams is after a stripped 172 in a chop shop, gets surprised, one hides in the stripped 172 and then it's loaded onto a truck with him in it.

    EGAD!

    The show is very educational!

I just learned that Cessna 172 is capable of 188 mph! And has a 700 mile range. Woo-who!!

I'm going to insist that my rental goes that fast or else!

Not only that, apparently worthless 60's model 172 shells with no valuable parts in them are worth 30 grand to a bank.

Did you guys all miss that the 172 turned into a 152 towards the end of the show in the dialog? Let's face it -- it's the best comedy show on Wed. nights.

I watched some on you tube.

They were going after a 6 seat Piper Archer that goes abnormally fast. I would have thought the mythical seats would make it abnormally slow. (yes, it was actually Archer, not a misnamed 6)

Another awesome one... the guy in the Baron that "doesn't close his flight plans because he's running from us"

Pretty easy to look where the search and rescue activity is going on, isn't it?
