Airlines over the edge?

Add this to the stack of complaints about how airline employees seem empowered to treat travelers however the whim happens to strike that day. Woman nearly kicked off a flight because of what she was wearing. Video link attached. You be the judge.

I've seen a lot worse boarding flights. Doesn't look too bad to me.

SouthWest just got another strike from me. Perhaps she just looked better than the flight attendant and they could not take the competition.:D :dunno:

I think we cannot see the perspective that likely led to the request from that video (actually, we can a little, but I suspect her dress has changed a little bit). My guess is, she went "all Britney" and after being seated, it was... apparent.

You think she didn't have underwear? I'd guess that's a possible, but it certainly could have been handled better than it was. Said quietly "Gee, you are revealing a bit too much for our comfort. Would you mind putting a blanket in your lap for the flight". Something like that. Of course, she's on tv with her lawyer... What exactly is this worth that requires a lawyer?

This is how one should dress for air travel.:D

That was my exact same thought. You get a full on crotch shot there, and the skirt is pretty short . . .

But, poorly handled on SWA's part.

Cheers,

-Andrew

No kidding! She still flew. And it's up to the airline to deny boarding as they see fit, anyways. I'd bet it was because of that skirt, though...watch when she sits down...pretty sure Matt Lauer got a bit of a show.

Another unanswered question: Fly from San Diego to Tucson for a doctor's appt? What's up with that? I mean, I could see flying to Peoria for a special issuance medical if I needed one (Hi, Bruce!), but ...

It's the socal Blonde thing. Everyone get over it. It's everyplace from Redondo beach to Rodeo drive. Who is SWA to preach- remember, their stock signal is "LUV'. Anyone remember the old Hotpants promotion from the late 60's? Those were little more than tight boxer shorts.

If a woman wants to be regarded as a sex object, that's HER problem. But it's amazing that her MOM doesn't get it.

Did this flight attendant go near a high school recently? Sorry, but that's pretty decent compared to what I see even in some business offices.

Actually I think SW is handling it well, by not saying anything. This girl just makes herself look dumber and dumber by having all these newspaper articles and TV shows about how she was asked to leave the flight. wah wah ma cry cry. flying is not a right, its up to the airline.

Flying to Peoria would be about the only reason to use airlines to go to a doctor.

yeah, there are places where "casual Friday" has morphed into "slutty Friday."
Oh that's right... I better get on down to Atlanta. Ya never know what you might see in one of those huge law firms today! :)

You know what sucks? Having to pull people aside for dress code violations. My old boss had to do it with a data entry clerk who did the bare midriff + thong above the hip thing all the time.

I had to pull aside a foriegn employee once and talk to him about hygiene and bathing. That was NOT fun.

Cheers,

LOL, I have flown people in a chartered jet to their doctor's appointments... and dogs to their vet appointments.

As far as Southwest goes, if it was a no-panties thing they should have been smart enough to use the sanitation angle. If not, give me a break, you can see more at the beach or the pool.

I just saw her on the Today show. I got the impression that the SWA crew got a complaint from a fellow passenger.

The problem here is how arbitrary the "banning" was.

She said she flew back on Southwest in the same outfit and was complemented by the crew.

I'll suspect something about those who complained but I'll hold my tongue.

She's welcome to sit next to me, any time.

Time to give Hooter's Air another try.

I was particularly amused to read on CNN that she works at Hooters. :goofy:

If they hadn't said something to her, the person (people) that complained would probably be suing instead. It was kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation for SWA. I just want to know what the hell she thinks she's going to sue for??? They let her fly, even though they didn't have to (ever read the back of your ticket or any of the signs at the ticket counter/small print on the website?). I just don't get it.

Could they have appologized? Sure. Could the gate agent have handled this better? Possible. Is she making a spectacle of herself for no apparent reason? You bet. Absurdity.

I thought Hooter's Air closed their doors.:dunno:
That's what I mean; maybe there's a market for it after all.

She said on Today she'd be fine with an apology and hadn't decided whether to sue or not. SWA has no dress code, they said, so they have no specific violation to justify kicking her off. Only that fine print Matthew mentioned.

What's crazy is SWA let her fly later wearing the EXACT SAME CLOTHES she was kicked off for. Also that no one, from the check in counter to the gate, mentioned her clothing as a potential problem.

Arbitrary. What does the reasonable person consider 'inappropriate'. Now, if she was going into the Vatican, I can see the point. But going from TUC to SAN, in Sept? You gotta go with the flow. If she shot the bush as someone and they were offended, I could also see the point, but I would take the offending pax aside and say 'sister, if it bothers you, don't look. There's nothing SW can do to make a slut not a slut'.

SWA Blew it. She's busty but the tops not revealing. Blanket on the lap would prevent the crotch shot thing Problem seems to be more of a snooty Employee could have handled it better. Next time she should take GA she won't have any issues there.

It wasn't the SWA employee that had a problem to begin with...it was another passenger. The SWA agent was just reacting (albeit poorly) to a complaint from someone else on the plane. There hands were kind of tied...if they hadn't said something, then the person complaining would be on TV and in court saying SWA is leud and indecent and has "warped her fragile little mind" (to quote Southpark). They maybe should have confronted her more tacfully (and more privately) but when someone complains, there's not a lot you can do to placate them but confront whomever they're complaining about.

True. Next time I fly the airlines, I'll try complaining about the smelly BO on the person sitting next to me, and see if he/she gets tossed off.

Folks, there's another thing we're all missing here...

...from what I have seen thus far, we don't actually know what the SWA representative said or did. All of the remarks above have simply accepted the account given by the passenger, verbatim. I am very skeptical of the account given by the aggrieved passenger and her lawyer (pardon me for not simply accepting it as gospel). We don't know whether the passenger service agent actually told her that her entire outfit was out of line, or not, or for that matter, whether he did it discreetly and out of earshot of other pax or not.

Given the general tone of respect I observe from Southwest's personnel, it would surprise me a little bit if they did not make the effort to keep the conversation low-key.

I still think there is another shoe to drop here--- or, at least, a thong.

The SW letter they read did mention they were responding to a complaint. Other than that, hers was the only side presented.

She shoulda wore one of these more appropriate outfits found in her 'Christmas selections' online. Nice all-over tan.

You owe me an espresso and dry cleaning, Spike. I just dribbled it on my tie!

Cheers,

I might have upgraded my ticket to sit with her.:cheerswine:

While I will say she is a FINE looking woman....I do have a question. Someone earlier stated that it depends on what a reasonable person would find offensive. The problem is no one will allow someone else to determine what "reasonable" is.

I watched the vid, when she sat down it was full on crotch shot...now I think she is fine, but damn, have we really and truly gotten to the point where no one can request or expect any decorum anymore?

I mean if she would have worn a tube top and hot pants some would say "hey that does not offend me" and call anyone offended a "prude". So what about a thong? Hell lets all just go naked!

What I am getting at is that since so many will not allow anyone to stand up and set limits, where only each individual gets to set limits, there are no limits.

This girl IS dressed like a lot of college girls today...in as sexy, look at me, clothes as they can. Pretty or not...it is getting tiring to see how many girls can dress like porn stars and get away with it.

The "crotch shot" lasted an instant, and all I saw was shadow.

Really, I tried to see more, but couldn't. Maybe I'll keep re-playing the video.

FARKers who, trust me, would know, say that NBC blurred the shot. Dunno how it looked live. I think the Today show is only really live in the eastern time zone. In Chicago we get it on tape delay.

That's a very excellent point. I just can't imagine SWA would be dumb enough to let themselves get wrapped up into the media frenzy...there's no way they could come out looking good, so like Tony said, the best thing they can seem to do is just stay quiet and give only the facts (as they did in the letter).

Insert crude thong joke here.

That reminds me of this one time, I went on a date wearing a skirt just like that to Six Flags. I learned quick that it was a bad idea, since all the rides had straddle seats. I think my date was dissapointed that he wasn't one of the workers or in line waiting.
