Had a great time shooting this plane yesterday. Clint Choate (left seat) owns this beautiful plane and is working on getting his PPL. His instructor, Tres Clinton (right seat) was flying the plane for this photo shoot. Tres has flown with me before and can really handle a plane. This makes it a lot easier for me.

Damn.. all your photos are epic. Even for a common and "basic" plane like a PA28 they somehow come out looking better than real life.. like when you download a paint scheme for x-plane and you think "no way, there is nothing in real life that looks this sharp"

    -nice work!

PS - he doesn't look cross controlled in any of the photos, so you had to be quick on the timing to get those turning and quarter profile shots

Agree. The combination of the traditional scheme and that green was great!

Thank you! Tres is really good at flying formation and knows what I want in my photos. He said, "Let me know when I can go crazy." I told him to have fun and he did!

Well, for starters all of your shots are through (horrible) Plexiglas or whatever your aircraft sports. Jack might get better angles, but that'll ruin any of our shots.

That’s cool how every shot is almost entirely different. Love the colors, contrast, sharpness. It’s either my imagination, or you’re improving from just great when I first started following you a few short years ago to now spectacular, Jack.

@Lowflynjack, what’s your speed restriction on these photo shoots. I got a buddy with a MU2 that’s i could envision him wanting to get picks of his plane in flight.

I hate you with all my hate.

PA28s are very demanding and require pilots with utmost skill, rugged good looks and rapist wit. You sir have OH-fended my delicate sensibilities which are also required of the PA28 pilot btw.

Jack - Never get tired of that prop arc pic.

I had a friend offer to take me up for photos in his RV-7 the other day. I think he was offended when I told him I wouldn't shoot through the canopy. He insisted it was brand new! Nope.

Thanks! I have upgraded cameras, practiced a lot, but honestly a lot of credit goes to my photo pilot and the subject pilot. My photo pilot that I used most often has learned my style and puts me in the right position without my input.

    Thank you!

Thanks. I still get excited when the prop lights up just right!

Thank you. I rarely ask people to repaint their planes though! :)

Pretty sure this wasn't an original color, but I loved it. More of an olive green. Made the plane unique.

One of my photo pilots recently bought a new Lance, but it's getting a few things fixed before he brings it home. It will do 140 kts with the doors off.

Oh I know, I was just poking fun. My plane's original color is what I call "old man brown" which is that beigy color Piper obviously got a discount on.

But that isn't Piper old man brown. That's Cessna magnificent ochre. :)

Ahh... I'm too exhausted to catch the joke! Four weeks ago, I had a hip replacement, which kept me grounded for a few days. Then there was no sun for what seemed like weeks. Then for the icing on the cake... Piper Owners asked me to shoot a PA-28R-200 and then agreed to let me shoot a 180. I found this beautiful plane and I already knew the owner's CFI could really fly formation well, the sun came out, and I shot it. Only after getting all of these shots, editing them, and getting ready to send the email to the magazine did I realize I had made a major mistake... I'd missed the R in PA-28R. They wanted a retractable. Did I say I'm exhausted? :(

And I wear it proudly. :p

This was my Grumman Cheetah before I had it painted in 2000. Avocado and orange. And the prior owner had recently put in a new beige-and-burgundy interior, so I had to get it painted ASAP.

    N116MC-EAT.jpg

So I had it painted in Piper Old Man Brown. :D

    Dsc00028.jpg

Here's the color chart from the 1970 Cherokee 140 brochure:

    1970 PA-28-140 colors.jpeg

This is from the 1978 Cessna Cardinal brochure. The FAA should issue an AD against that avocado-and-goldenrod tartan upholstery.

And still a very snowy Flag it was (March 10). Forecast says more on the way later this week.

@Lowflynjack You using film or digital? Some of those photos look old school with film the way the prop looks painting the white circle from the color on the prop. Is there a filter for digital that does that?

100% Digital for me. No filters. You can either say I expect to get it right the first time, or you can say I'm lazy, but I hate editing photos! I use Lightroom to crop, sharpen, adjust the white balance, etc. That white circle on the prop is what I live for. If you don't at least have the tips of your prop painted, it will almost disappear in flight, especially black props. Now if anyone wanted my opinion, all props should be white... you know, for my sake!

You can see the difference in a white prop and a silver prop in this photo I took.

Sorry, I'm usually pretty laid back, but why are you posting your photos on a thread I started about my photo shoot? It's annoying.

Not taking sides in this one, but I'm not sure we prohibit pictures being posted in any of the threads, even if they are unrelated to the initial subject of the thread. I didn't take it that he was trying to rain on your parade.

I didn't say they should be prohibited, I just don't understand it. I share photos I've taken and this guy keeps posting his photos. He could start a thread about his air-to-air photos just as easily as I did.

I guess all the other pictures of people's airplanes weren't annoying since they weren't air to air? They didn't annoy me. More on topic than paint scheme brochures. Its not like the guy is a competitor showing off comparable shots. Just a guy trying to join the conversation and share some aviation photos that may not warrant their own thread, geesh. :)

Ok, I get it! To me, it felt like when someone posts a plane for sale and someone tags on that they too have a similar plane for sale. He's just using my thread to post photos he's snapped out of the window of the plane. I'm wrong... I've been wrong before!
