It doesn't matter how many covers I get, I'm always honored to get the cover of Sport Aviation. This is one beautiful Hatz with a radial engine, which makes it look like a classic barnstorming plane from the 30s!

More photos to come.

As I've gotten older, I'm not nearly as flexible as I used to be, so climbing into EAA's AirCam, Photo 2, was not something I was looking forward to. The photo pilot likes it when I ride with him though because he flies it from the back seat to give me the best view possible and since I'm a tailwheel pilot, I can help out if needed. It's not easy to land from the back seat, and he's a high-time Stearman pilot, no rookie! Anyway, I've grown to love the AirCam. I can get shots I don't get from the 210, like the rear shots, or underneath. Anyway, thought you guys might enjoy a little of the story behind the photos!

Wow! Image #5 and #6 (from above and right quarter panel) are awesome!

I actually like #2 the most just because of the reflection/gleam of sunlight across the cowl and fuselage. Very well framed shot for sure.
Thanks! This was one of those magical days where where it was dreary on the ground, beautiful above the clouds.

Hah! You should try climbing, or rather slithering, into the front seat of an original Hatz (the CB-1, not the later and larger Hatz Classic). It's not for the gravitationally challenged, or the old and inflexible.

Yeah, I tried that once many years ago! Nope!

There’s an intricate choreography involved with getting into the front pit of both the CB1 and Classic. Believe it or not, going in backwards is the preferred method.

Yes, facing the tail is much easier.
