Cherokee 180. I am facilitating the painting and balancing work that will be performed at another location from where the repair (annual) is taking place. In absence of a log book entry by the paint shop is an invoice (or other document) from the paint shop documenting the required compliance information sufficient for the AP/AI to include and sign off on the log book entry for the repair? Thanks.

In general, no. The person performing the work must document the work per 43.9. However, the APIA could agree to oversee that work and perform the sign off if they so choose.
I’m not 100% sure I understand this but I’ll give it a shot.
1. There must be an entry for skin replacement.
2. There must be an entry for paint and BALANCE.
Your comments lead me to think they are not certified?
As Bell said the Tech can oversee and certify.
3. There must be an entry for installation.
4. Some Repair Stations use their Work Order as the entry.
Generally work performed by a RS would be signed by a Inspector
under the Certificate rather than the personal APIA.
5. The IA would be attesting to the condition of the component.
If I was the IA involved I would really like to see the spars and rivets
before it was installed. Preferably before painting. If they are at
different locations this could an application using phones to do this.
Controversial though. I’d hate to have to tell folks to remove skins
or rivets after painting or installation.
6. The signature of the AP/IA is not a formality. I’ve had folks say
“ it’s ready for you to sign”. It turned out it was ready to take apart!
7. Coordination is essential. Painters lacking certification might paint
great. Who is balancing controls? Too much paint and they have to be
stripped again!
