Can a slight bend like this be massaged back into place? If so, how? Wooden dowel? Rolling pin? Frying pan? The metal is not torn or kinked.

You’d have nothing to lose by putting a couple pieces of wood above and below and clamping. Where a little massaging might be needed is those squares. Or diamonds if that’s what you wanna call them. You’ll probably see one or both got stretched a little horizontally

No harm in returning the trailing edge to flat, but it’ll never be perfect. I use my thumbs.

If so, how?
Find someone who has a pair of metal seam pliers that will fit between the corrugations. However, try it only one time and call it good. 2024T3 does not have a "memory" and you could make it worse with repetitive attempts.

The "diamonds" are called corrugations. They provide added strength/rigidity to the thin skin.

:yeahthat:

Some stretching of the metal has occurred so getting it perfect won't happen. The shape of the bend looks almost like the crown of someone's head ...

I've seen mechanics straighten that with a clamp and a couple of wood blocks.

If applying clamps, can’t go more than 1/4” forward of the trailing edge… those two layers only touch at that point.

I’d try, in this order… thumbs, block of wood with hand pressure, block of wood on top and bottom with very careful/gentle clamping. It’ll go back into shape, maybe not perfect but pretty close.

Or bring blood from the thin skin of the person that just walked into them ... :mad2:

I don't know if I've ever seen a Cessna with only one dent that small. I'm betting anything you do will make it different, but no better. It's difficult to unstretch metal.

I’m not saying it can’t be done. There are wizards out there that could absolutely do it.

That metal isn't stretched much. The extra metal was pulled from the diamond sections, flattening them slightly. One can try to rebend them a little, but there is a strong risk of cracking those skins in the bend radii. 2024T-3 does not take kindly to being bent that sharply more than once.

Clamping between a couple pieces of scrap 1/8" hobby plywood made it a little better.
