[A]Why is the...[A]

LOL. I wasn't going to reply but couldn't resist since he decided an opinion about politicians being useless in a TFR thread was something to jump down my throat for.

Disagreeing with you is jumping down your throat?

Kennedy DID have us in Vietnam. So did Eisenhower. Just not on the same scale.

True, but "not on the same scale" is one of the major features of Johnson's Vietnam policy. As soon as he took office, he reversed Kennedy's order to reduce the number of troops, and he subsequently led a massive escalation in U.S. involvement.

It's not terribly relevant to make up alternate histories, but it's not too hard to extrapolate Kennedy's approach. I could see him as saying no to the Gulf of Tonkin strategy after what happened at the Bay of Pigs. That might have had an enormous effect -- or more precisely a lack of enormous effect. Not because he was a better president, but rather because he had already had a massive screw up, and a separate close call to thermonuclear war.

It's a matter of speculation as to what any specific leader would have been able to do and would have done, but to say that it doesn't matter who our leaders are ignores history, IMO.

Stadium TFRs rank pretty high on the stupid scale. Only less useful are the VIP ones, mostly since said VIPs are utterly replaceable and interchangeable even these days.

If it makes you feel any better, at least stadium TFRs are for the protection of the crowds of common folk who attend games. :D

Won't work. What ya gonna do? "Splash" an inbound over populated San Jose to save the stadium dwellers? It's all over before they'd even have the request to do it up the chain of command high enough to authorize it.

They may have a contingency plan in place to authorize it lower and pretend a politician personally authorized it later, I suppose.

Either way, it'd be over with before the TFR did any good. It's theater.

Totally agree. But I disagree that a change in leadership would not change history. The result would be different, but no one would ever be able to evaluate if the change was a positive or negative. Most likely it would be positive for some and negative for others.

Actually this shows that you "get it".

Voters are just two sheep arguing over which one DC is going to eat for dinner.

I wasn't trying to say it was effective protection, merely that that is its nominal purpose. (Obviously, its real purpose may be just to make the masses feel safer.)

We're paying for an awful lot of ineffective stuff with nominal purposes these days to keep people who know better, employed, essentially as actors. No wonder DC loves Hollywood so much.
