A sad day

[murphey]

Tom Lehrer died.

New Math.
Poisoning pigeons in the park
The Elements
The Vatican Rag
and more!

Wierd Al Yankovic considered him his inspiration and muse.

I play a video of New Math in my beginning computer science class. From the reaction, I can tell who's going to do well in the degree program and who's going to transfer to another major.

I have several of his recordings. One of the greats.

Ozzy, Chuck, and now Tom.

GeorgeC,

Hulk.

Nauga,
and music for the masses

Not sure if this was intentional, but the song "Who's Next" is one of Lehrer's most prescient and insightful statements. It's still very relevant today.....

I never heard of him until just about a week ago when someone posted somewhere a link to his “Who’s Next.” Now that I’ve learned more about him I am offering a metaphorical toast to him with a Jello Shot. Too bad he wasn’t a pilot and hung around here on POA. He’d a been a hoot.

I loved him as a child. I didn’t care for “Poisoning Pigeons on the Park”, but so much of his work really rang true.

I especially remember “National Brotherhood Week”.

[Half Fast]

Loved his stuff back during my college days. Been a rough July; too many greats gone west.

While I'm thinking of it, Cleo Laine last week, also.
