A&P Currency

Question to the active A&P's out there.

My dad has his A&P but hasn't used it in a while. Can he start using it or does he need some sort of check ride? He came across an FAR that says (don't quote me) that if you haven't worked as an A&P for 6 of the last 24 months then you don't have the currency or recency required and can't use it. If that is the case, that's fine but it doesn't seem to specify, or he just couldn't find it, what to do now to be able to use it again.

He's not going to earn money with it, was more curious about being able to help me on more simple A&P tasks with the new plane.

He needs supervision for 6 months then he's good to go. There's no log book entry or sign off just oversight from someone who is actively engaged.

He needs to do maintenance then sign it off to demonstrate being actively engaged....if he's ever challenged.

It's never enforced, but, if our friends ever come around and ask for documentation (records), one should be prepared.

The question is, does 65.83 (a) & 1-4 apply?
