Yep. I didn't start flying due to the ability to go faster and have a more efficient manner of transportation. I did it for enjoyment... and so I could look down on people. :D Those other tings are just side benefits.
 
Am I trying to make a commute? That has a real bearing on the answer.
 
'Round this neck of the woods everyone knows it takes a solid 4 hours to drive to myrtle (lots of real slow windy roads). I'll just say "we can get to the beach in an hour" and that usually gets a good reaction.

EDiT: but for a specific number, flight-planning speed is what I tell them, give or take winds.

:D Around here everybody goes to Destin to the beach, with a food/gas stop the drive is about 7hrs. I tell them I can be there in 2hrs.
