A new competition

Very true for the near term future. It will remain exclusive until the risk takers put enough time on and feed back into the technology to mature it into something the general public can use. Something like this will be a decade before a mass consumer market product comes out.

They said this a decade or two ago about STOLPorts and later that there would be V-22 Ospreys in all major metro heliports too.

People don't want to fly to commute. They barely look up further than the tips of their shoes.

Can it take that much metal falling on it? I know it's a nuke silo however that is a LOT of metal that will be coming down. If not, we'll have to find one of the ones in the middle of nowhere.

It's quite beefy. Nice drive in underground parking, big concrete cap on the silo. Etc.

I should have taken some shots from the air. We went hunting for it last fall. Pretty easy to spot. A bunch of horseback riders going past it on a trail that day.

Totally different, the economy killed that, that's gonna be very expensive and is not intrinsically safe. An auto gyro like this can be reproduced easily in large quantities for low money.

I eagerly await hoardes of crazed road-raging idiots who can't even follow simple road signs, joining us in the sky. ;)

First, they'll need a Medical...

Did anyone notice the info on the site about the "leaning" technology (as in "lean into turns" not LOP)?

It seems like it might use a hydraulic interface to the drive system to increase the lean based on wheel speed. I'd like to learn more about that and the rotor fold process.

Not too difficult to build a torsional transfer system across a split swing arm, you don't need hydraulics although you could do it that way reasonably elegantly; you could also use gears and/or extra levers. The principle itself is simple, the question becomes one of added performance, hydraulics allows you to add energy into the suspension to take advantage of offset leverage to counter and even use lateral acceleration force in a turn to stability advantage. You also now steer by changing pressure on each swing arm to bank the front carriage which is a solid fork front wheel drive with no steering separate from the pod. You can compensate the pull on the spool valve opening it at different rated according to speed and the extra Gs pulled.

I've been thinking about this concept and wondering what copycats it will spawn - especially since it seems to be a better executed copy/improvement on the "skybike" gyro.

I looks like they have some sort of "lift kit" for the rear suspension which gives the needed prop clearance when transitioning to flying mode.

Maybe the training wheels on something like this could perform a similar function.

No, completely different geometry not physically capable of producing a similar result, they actually did a pretty elegant thing with the gyro bike.
