Man, as much as I hate business travel, I’d love to eat the stuff you take pics of. Never been to that part of the world to even try. N.America and Europe only.

Well there was a big piece of lettuce under the side salad that served as a top. Messy but it worked.

That'll teachya for trying to find a burger at a "British ex-pat pub". Was the beer cold?
Maybe fish and chips next time? :D

Honestly, the food here is great. I love it. And I like to eat. The pictures above are not a good indication either, normally I have some big platters of fried or steamed fish, shrimp, maybe some clams and other shellfish, and a little rice noodle. Everything here is fresh. Fresh leafy greens. Fresh seafood. It's either grilled, steamed, or stir fried in something other than heavy oil so it is very light.

Three weeks ago I was in Northern Vietnam and I was invited to some obscure restaurant that had great fried fish and some obscure dish that was either a sliced river fish or perhaps a heart ventricle. Not sure which it was and sometimes it's best not to ask. But it was pretty good, with the spices and all.

The beer was cold yes, and sure they have fish and chips, but, the fish at the Vietnamese places is so much better. And so much cheaper.

My first thought when I read the title, but before clicking into the thread, was "There's no way I'd eat some nasty lettuce-wrapped burger!" But that burger does look good to me - I'd eat it!

The salad doesn't belong there, though. Isn't it a law that you must server a burger with some sort of fried potato? Like...Tater Tots. Mmmmmm....Tater Tots!

The carbs you save by going without the bun are negated by the beer, no?

Actually, the Brits traditionally ate burgers with a knife and fork, though that has probably changed in the last 10 years.

That looks good, but might be better if wrapped like Habit does. Red Robin does great lettuce wrap as well.

No. The carbs you consume with the beer are offset by the absence of a bun. A diet soda would have been worse because then you would be hungry again sooner.

I was in Norway a couple years ago and my wife and we saw an American restaurant. We decided that we had to give it a try. So in we went. When our burgers came out we picked them up and went to town on them (they were good burgers). Only as we were taking our last bites did we look around and notice that everyone else in the place was using a fork and knife to eat their burgers.

What's wrong with some people? It just ain't right.

There is that, but beer is cheap here and wine and liquor is expensive. And I don't know what it is about the beer, but I don't gain weight off it. Tiger is light, with an honest 5% alcohol. Then again I really don't eat that much here.

Habit does the best job out of all of them. Inn & Out does a pretty good job, and Carl's Jr. does a spotty but usually reasonable job. The problem is, true iceberg lettuce isn't a thing here.

I just learned the other day that Denver has a couple Shake Shack locations I need to check out. I haven't been to one yet.

Best burger joint I ate at was Super Duper in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. Those were some of the best burgers, fries, and shakes I've ever had (from a restaurant anyway).

I get this [lettuce wrapped, AKA "protein burger"] at Red Robin. Because fat.

I've never understood the 'protein style' (Inn n Out's phraseology) descriptor for a lettuce wrapped burger. There is no more or less protein in a lettuce wrapped burger. And probably less fat as there is no bun to soak all of it up.

The carbohydrate to protein ratio is vastly improved, however.
