What an absolutely wonderful weekend!!! In spite of the "challenges" on Saturday, it was one of the best fly ins...ever!!!
Thank you all so much for coming. Great friends, new friends, great memories.
Another plane came in today and also had a visit from the sheriff. It's all good...:)
    Already planning for next year...

    Awesome weekend!

Thank you Brad, Diz and Ed! Had a wonderful time, nice to put faces with names, but, by now, probably have them all jumbled up.

Made it back to Springfield about 5pm last night. What a great time! It was good to see old friends and make a few new ones! Thanks, Diz, for all the hard work you exert every year! We all know that Ed and Brad are just along for the ride. ;)

Adam, Gary, Jim, it was great to meet you guys.

Was there any doubt? :) 13.5 on the Hobbs for the round trip.

    Notes to self:
Over water crossings at 70-80 give you way too much time to think about it.
U.P. swamps aren't much better. Following 28/41/94/28 is much more relaxing.
Weather over St. Ignance is not the same as the weather over Mackinac Island (5 miles away) or any of the other nearby airports in the lower.
I don't know who St. Ignace was, but apparently he/she doesn't like me.
It's not a real cross country unless you scud run at some point along the way, eh?

For the record, I was able to look down to see the bridge.

Leslie and I have returned the motorhome (I was told I couldn't call it an RV anymore) and unpacked the car. Had an uneventful trip home, including our first time at an RV campground and first time using a truck wash. There were a LOT of bugs. in fact, this is the first year I remember a significant mosquito issue at 6Y9!

As usual, we had a great time! Considering we had only one plane arrive Saturday, we had a great turnout! Brad left just as we were leaving yesterday around 4PM ET. This is a little slice of heaven.

I did learn something new at 6y9.

    Well, apparently...

    ...

I was told that when one does a "wildlife clearing pass," you're not supposed to do it low enough to konk the coyotes on the head with your landing gear.

    Who knew?

When planning our departure on the back of the 6Y9 shirt, why do I get the feeling that @AdamZ is subtly sanding me a message?

We had a great time, as usual! Wish we could have made it up earlier on Saturday, but considering this is the first time I can ever remember any weather troubles for 6Y9, on average things have been good. I'm glad we managed to perfectly nail our arrival in the only 20-minute window available that day.

I did have an aviation first on this trip: I've never had to shoot an approach into one airport and then "circle" to a different airport. When's the ILS going in at 6Y9? ;p

I think my little guy enjoyed his first 6Y9 adventure too. He definitely enjoyed his first ATV ride with Brad:

    IMG_0782.JPG

Had so much fun he got all tuckered out:

    IMG_0780.JPG

And was made to look even smaller when we put him in the giant chair at the tiki bar in Three Lakes on the way home:

    IMG_0797.JPG

    Can't wait 'til next year!

The line Saturday afternoon. No plane movement for most of the day, though Don did go up in the helicopter a couple times, and Kent, Kelsie and Grayson arrived after we all went to Hoppy's.

And here's a video of the line.

So a week has past and as I reflect back on the 2017 6Y9 Fly In : Fly In #12
Did we ever think that when we started this that we would get such great group of friends out of opening this little airport.
All such great friends whether we see them once or twice a year, travel with them or new first timers.
I get asked by others out of aviation, "wow, how often do you cut the grass there" ? and then "Why would you do this" ?

Well ,the answer is in this column. All the interaction between us all, the fun,the new comers , the die hards, the pilots arriving by plane, but beyond that those that arrive by car or motorcycle and Land Yacht (RV)'s that travel long hours even days to be together.
All I can say is Thank You but not just for coming but for being truly the greatest of FRIENDS.
The weather didn't quite cooperate but still it was best of times.
    Already thinking of next year.
    Blue Skies
    Brad

I still have drone footage of @EdFred departing and returning and of @JoeSelch departing that I need to edit. The Bonanza footage looks like it was Wonder Woman's plane.

Yeah where's this video and what are the licensing requirements? I have this video editor with a hole in the middle just waiting for a drone filmed section to be my unbelievably slow pass over the flight line.

I also have a placeholder for "Big yellow X" newest competitor. I will blur faces where needed. Lemme know if I can use these things for my own amusement which I will also share with the less than serious FB groups.

Usually what happens in Sidnaw stays in Sidnaw, however I think we can make an exception here...being a new competitor and all. Have at it...knock your socks off...I can hardly wait to see what may be coming...

not a UP fly-in if ya don't have some grass stain and sand on the bottom of the plane.
