Learnin’ to fly…
To cap off an already intense week, I managed to either loose my wallet, or it was stolen.

Under 61.13, am I technically grounded until I am in physical possession of the replacement certificate? Or, since I have a photo of my (now lost) certificate in the ‘qualifications’ section of ForeFlight, would that be deemed acceptable/compliant?

The FAA site to request a replacement certificate is currently down. Hopefully back up later or tomorrow.

You should contact a Flight Standards District Office and obtain a temporary medical and pilot certificate (valid 120 days) and then get permanent certificates.

61.17 and 61.29

Yes you need to have your Pilot's Certificate, Gov. Picture ID and Medical... but not per 61.13. I think you meant 61.3.

Easy to get a temporary replacment of the Certificate and Medical as @Clip4 pointed out. Depending upon what state you're in, the picture ID may take a bit. So hopefully you have a Passport, Global Entry, etc. to take care of the "picture" part. But I doubt anyone would call you on it if you had a temp. Drivers License. (Other than a DPE if you were going for a Checkride. :D)

You can call Airman Records in OKC on Monday morning. They will issue a fax (or email) that will suffice until the new certificates are issued.

  • Toll Free: (866) 878-2498
  • Local Oklahoma City Area: (405) 954-3261

Thanks, all. Will call this morning. Did not realize they would issue a temp. Fortunately, have my passport - so that simplifies several things.

First time I’ve ever had a wallet go missing. What a PITA

You can also do the FAA replacement online with an account at https://amsrvs.registry.faa.gov/amsrvs/

I had a rusty pilot client who was so rusty that they had a paper certificate! Temp immediately; plastic within 2 weeks.

Don't forget to update all those Auto Payments you have with your new CC#.... And stop and really think about thos ANNUAL renewals, etc., those always pop up with the old CC# at the worst time. :D

Thanks for the help, all.

The process with the FAA was remarkably easy and fast. Less than 30 seconds and I have a letter authorizing flight and a new certificate on the way!

May this entire process be this easy.
