6 + gunman killed, 3 injured at Sikh Temple

He was wearing a vest. I don't know the distance the shots were fired, though. We had a shooting in June. 2 of our guys put 8 rounds in a fugitive who pulled a gun on them. Only 1 round in the femoral artery (which we immediately applied a torniquet) would have resulted in a quick death. I'm sure Doc Chien can testify how much damage the human body can take.

It's interesting the difference in attention and expressed sentiments between this incident and the one in CO the other day. I guess a bunch of heathens just don't rate...

Probably because the shooter only had a single pistol with a few magazines, and not an "assault weapon" (whatever the hell that is :dunno:) or "high capacity 'clip'" (I didn't know he was shooting a Garand :dunno:) or "heavy weapons" (the term used by Bill O'Reilly in describing the CO shooter's weapons.)

It's just not as sexy of a story for gun critics.

Tonight's news (TMJ4) said that organizations that track hate groups had their eye on this guy for 12 years, and that he played in two bands associated with racist skinheads, and one was called "End Apathy".

God can you help me? Help me deal with this pain. Can you stop all this killing in your name? Lord if you're out there, you know the whole world is going insane, so can you stop all of this killing --in your name?
Down thru the ages we've all come to love wise men leading the way. So read all the pages in the books from above but don't get lead astray.

Lord, are you listening? To a prayer from a simple man. Can you stop all the saddness...can you stop all of this madness..can you stop all of this killing...in your name?

That exemplifies the problem, we all expect someone else to do everything difficult.

It's a prayer, Henning, and typically in prayers one asks for God's help. This may be a concept that's foreign to you because I'm told that, in most cases, gods don't pray to other gods.

Besides, show me where you've given 1/10th as much of your time and/or money as Graham has given for the greater good and then we'll talk. Until then I'll just consider this more of Henning's ego-centric, narcissistic, psycho-babble.

:rolleyes2: Tim, just a little over the top there.
:( Henning, you've been pushing a lot lately.

Nahh...I was just getting warmed up!

But, don't worry, I've put Henning back on my blocked list to avoid future skirmishes...

:)

I see your lips moving but I can't hear you talking

I just love it when we all play nice.

God helps those that help themselves, I see a lot of asking and no doing which was my point. Praying only goes so far, we need to make an effort as well.

From Wikipedia:
Sikhism believes in one supreme being which is real and imminent and only experienceable in this creation; technically there is nothing in this creation which is devoid of it and distinct of it.

It teaches that the God is omnipresent, transcendent, omnipotent, and omniscient. It also revolves around the belief in reincarnation. Emphasis is on ethics, morality, and values; the Sikh faith does not accept miracles. The Sikh school of thought believes in a form of reincarnation similar to Karma. The concept of hell and heaven in Sikhism is metaphorical and is said to be experienced by those who chose (or not) to live in the Five Thieves.

Sikhism believes in the concept of a human Soul (Self (spirituality) or consciousness or spirit or astral body). Sikhs believe they can unite and become one with God in this life (Gurmukh), as the consciousness merges with God (Supreme Consciousness) through truthful living and actions and is only a matter of realization. Sikhs always greet each other with the words "Sat Sri Akaal" which literally means "Truth is Time-less being". Truth, truthful living, equality, freedom and justice are the core principles of Sikh philosophy.

An example of Sikhism's commitment to tolerance is the fact that the foundation stone of one of the most prominent shrines of the Sikhs—Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar also known as the Golden Temple—was laid, not by the many eminent Sikh leaders or the 4th Sikh Guru Ramdas, who was the leader of the Sikhs at that time, but by a Sufi Muslim by the name of Sain Mian Mir.

The Sikh code of conduct strictly forbids the use of intoxicants, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, narcotics and any other foreign substance which disrupt the body; sexual relationship outside of marriage; consumption of sacrificial meat (Kutha meat), and cutting of hair.

The Sikh religion also teaches that human life is very precious, described as more precious than a diamond, which comes after great spiritual deeds and merits are done, and Sikh teachings are filled with guidance on how one should conduct one's self in order to find peace in this life and unite with God.

Reality is that Sikhism is closer to the teachings of Christ than Christianity.

Are you trying to bait people into making this thread go SZ?

Nope, pointing out an observation. Don't forget, Christ spent time studying in India and has a part in history there as well.

My wife and I visited our Sikh friends to give them our support and condolences. We've been honored to be invited to their temple and their daughter's Sikh wedding and consider them to be close friends.
