1000km in a 1-26!

It's finally been done. Daniel Sazhin managed to fly a 1000km distance flight in a 1-26. Keep in mind that the book L/D is a whopping 23:1.

Don't know what's more impressive. The distance or being able to sit in a 1-26 for 11 hours.

My daughter didn't see the significance, so I found a picture of a 1-26 for her.

She still didn't see the significance, so I pointed out that there was no engine on it.

Having a number of hours in a 1-26; NONE of them cross country; I am truly amazed. One doesn't need much time in one of these to realize immediately why Schweitzer had to exit the glider manufacturing business.
