Anyone know the reasoning behind this move by Rockwell Collins??

It has created a major pain in the a$$ for me at work. There are some airports we can't even go to now if the weather is crap because every approach is no longer in our databases.

We can do old school green needles and 5T's everyone learned in basic training for ILS, LOC, VOR, LDA. However if the airport has only GPS based approaches we can't takeoff.

Maybe the database memory in their units is too small. That's what happened to the old Trimble GPSs I used to use.

Does the "Temperature Compensation Wrong Turn Bulletin" mentioned in the message have anything to do with it?

Yep. Happened twice with in the past two weeks. Once going into Rochester and another going into Pittsburgh. It was clear and a million both times so I just loaded the visual approach and dialed in the ILS.

The departure and/or the missed approach will drop the turn if you edit the fix altitude. We aren't allowed to use VNAV on climbouts so it really doesn't affect us beyond the approaches having been deleted out of the FMS.

Yep our company sent out a list of all the approaches that are now missing. So we have to verify the availability every leg and if it's a airport with ones missing we either have to old school it or cancel.

At least your company sends you a memo about it!

Rockwell Collins sent out a lot of information to registered users of its database. This seems to apply to Collins Proline 4 and Proline 21 systems with type 7 database (anybody flying WAAS). The fix by Collins was to remove 10,000+ approaches. I find that staggering. I thought it would be much better to announce two things: 1) Do NOT ever edit an altitude on an approach and 2) Do not use these approaches in very cold weather where an automatic baro altitude adjustment is made. Instead, I find my self headed to airports with NO approaches left to us!
