    Pilot shop in San Antonio

Piedmont has been renamed to Landmark. There are two locations, Landmark North and Landmark South. Landmark North is the one across the street from the Pilot Shoppe. BTW, I shop in there quite often. Their prices are normal retail prices. They do have a fairly good selection of pilot supplies.

    New student with high BP

UPDATE - I received my cleared medical certificate today from the FAA. I'm back in the air again :-)

    New student with high BP

Yea, their initial letter telling me what I needed was relatively quick also. I sent them the requested documentation the first of November and am still waiting for the cleared medical. I may be absolutely wrong but I suspect the first letter is an automatic reply the result of a medical...

    New student with high BP

Karl, I'm pretty much in the same "boat" you're in. I too have HBP and a deferred medical. I have been waiting since the first of November on the FAA. I talked with an AOPA rep about a week ago and she said that the FAA medical division is moving to a new building and they were still working on...

How old were you when you pursued the dream?

I'm a late starter, I guess :). I was 60 when I got my ticket. As others have indicated, I wish I had done it a long time ago. But it required money and time, neither of which I had until the last few years. And with fuel prices going up along with associated rental rates, I'm not sure how much...

Jay, thanks for that great write-up. Hopefully, we will be going next year. Kent, I really enjoyed watching those three videos - thanks for posting the links. Best.

    FAA lengthens Medical certificate

Oh well, too little...too late. At least I get to watch the young whipper-snappers go to work each day :)

    Grandkids to Oshkosh

Mike, I'm quite sure you are correct in that there will be many others using the same type devices. The point, I was trying to make, albeit not very well, was don't buy a cheap set with only a single channel. So yes, you will be sharing the airwaves with others - we even had that experience on...

    Grandkids to Oshkosh

I third this recommendation :). Several years ago, we moved my mother-in-law from FL to TX. There were 3 vehicles in the on-going caravan. I purchased 4 of those walkie-talkies for us to use. They worked fantastic on the trip. They allowed us to keep in touch with each other even when spread...

    100 dollar hamburger locations...

We flew to Lockhart (50R) yesterday. We ate at Chisholm Trail BBQ at the recommendation of the FBO manager and a fellow by the name of Bill at the airport. I made a posting on the Adventure Pilot web site. Great food and very reasonable. I'm not sure it was better than Cooper's but I would hate...

    100 dollar hamburger locations...

Troy, That van belongs to Cooper's :). They put it at the airport due to the heavy fly-in customers they get. That was the courtesy car, I was referring to. Best.

The Great Flood of 2008 Update

Jay, thanks for the update. Here in San Antonio, we too have seen a couple of very sever floods but I'm sure none of them was comparable to what you all are experiencing. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. Hang in there and above all, stay safe. Best.

    Congradulations,... Pilot! Best words Ever!

Rob, CONGRATS!!! You have accomplished an achievement that you will always smile about when you tell others that "I'm a PILOT!". Best wishes and happy flying.

    New Private Pilot

Marty, CONGRATULATIONS!! Way to go. I really enjoyed your write-up. You have already achieved what the vast majority of the world can only think about - becoming a pilot. Best wishes and remember, it is always a good idea to let the rubber hit the runway first :).

What do you do for a living?

I am retired - retired - and RETIRED!! :) :) In July, 1982, I retired from serving 21 years in the U.S.A.F. I then earned my college degree and following graduation went to work for a large financial/insurance company. Fifteen years later, I retired from there. I am now quickly approaching 65...

    Lockheed Martin Performance

In the last 7 months, I have filed 8 different VFR X-cntry flight plans with the San Angelo FSS. With the exception of being on hold for a couple of minutes with one of those, I have had great response from them and found them to be most helpful. No complaints from me :) Best.

    FBO Announces Biz down 50%

Jay, I'm financially unable to own an airplane like many of you. Therefore, my flying is all predicated upon the rental prices and my current financial situation. Since the first of this year, the rental rates have increased twice and with the cost-of-living increases that we have all...

    100 dollar hamburger locations...

There is a fantastic restaurant located on the airport at Brenham (11R). It serves great burgers and Blue Bell Ice Cream milkshakes. The atmosphere of the restaurant is set in the '50's. Very cool and relaxing place to land, fuel, and eat. Best. Harry
