Thanks again for the replies .. For context some replies seemed direct to me but this is my 30 yr old GF who is interested. I have personally been flying about 10 years with 2k hours and own a Columbia 400 so she is not that new to aviation. I do agree the cost is crazy --- thanks for the...

    ATP Flight School

Thanks for all the replies. First Class Medical "should" not be a problem --- waiting on AME apt now Cost -- yes it is stupid expensive. There is a lot of risk due to the fact a job is not guaranteed / one could flame out and end up saddled with 100k debt just to be able to get a $100...

Traveling to KSRQ (Sarasota FL) FBO Recommendation

I spoke to a gentleman on the phone who is based at KSRQ and flies a piston single. He said Rectrix North is spot on now and always provides him great service. So I will be giving them a try. Thanks for the replies.

Traveling to KSRQ (Sarasota FL) FBO Recommendation

I have no knowledge of either FBO groups. I'm just seeing online that Rectrix has split into 2 with a piston specific FBO on the north end. The other Rectrix FBO is for jet and turbo prop guys and then there is Dolphin.

Traveling to KSRQ (Sarasota FL) FBO Recommendation

I will be heading to Sarasota this weekend in the 400 for the week. I have gone to Venice the past few years but thinking about KSRQ this year. I noticed there are a couple FBO's and one for GA aircraft. The reviews online range from glorious to awful on Rectrix Aerodrome Centers, North Light...

    Basicmed and color vision deficiency

Okay, so here is a question going to the next step past BasicMad and color vision. Say you have a current 3rd class with the night flight restriction. You are an instrument rated pilot with the restriction printed on the back of your pilot certificate (NIGHT FLYING PROHIBITED). Now you have...

    Basicmed and color vision deficiency

My AME in March continued the color vision restriction on my 3rd class. My GP last week did my BasicMed and asked very little about colors, however he did a very thorough vision exam with charts.

    Test flew an SR22T-G5 today

Don't cut yourself short on the turbo --- just saying. I'm in the S.E. as well and purchased a Columbia 400 earlier this year ---- absolutely love the turbo / however I think the 400 is a different setup than the SR22 turbo. Unless you are truly going to stay low and close to home give the...

    Wtb Grumman tiger

Muddy00 ---- I have a 77 Tiger for sale but it is currently under contract. If that falls thru I will let you know. If you get a good Tiger you will be very happy with it. Great little plane that is really fun and cheap to fly. My overall mission requirements changed and I needed / wanted...

I think they forgot about me....

This is funny ---- got dropped numerous times in the Grumman on FF and twice on long XC IFR ----- last time from FL to KBTR / very busy airspace. However it has not happened in the Columbia 400 ---- yet.

KCUB - Columbia, SC - ATC from ground?

I fly in and out of KCUB very often --- never had any trouble reaching Metro on the radio for clearance anywhere on the ramp.

Crash in Carrollton GA 2 airplanes down, 3 dead.

Too many what ifs ----- easy to see one over taking the other on final in any number of situations --- what if one is on a tight base to final and the other a high fast straight in dropping down on top? Bottom line it is very sad and seems to me to come back down to lack of radio use.

    Solidworks

I own a small tool and die shop and have been using SW for close to 15 yrs now. Like has already been said; you will not pick it up in a day or two but very nice once you understand it. Training and supports is typically first class.

    Accelerated Instrument Rating Programs

I tried to use Scott at OBX but could not work out a time. I went with CRAFT (IFR6) out of Charleston SC ---- KCHS. Super good program but extremely intense --- my head hurt so bad by the end of the day.... As good luck would have it we flew in IMC the entire week with ceilings from 500 to...
