    FAA Medical Exam for PPL

Thanks for that. So, how do I know what's a big deal to FAA and what's not? Is there a way to mitigate trouble?

    FAA Medical Exam for PPL

Just to be clear, I'm asking about a Class 3 Medical Exam for a private pilot license. I found these: FAA Pilot Medical FAQ and FAA: Become a Pilot -- Medical Certification They read to me like as long as you don't have a major medical condition preventing you from piloting an...

    FAA Medical Exam for PPL

I was reading over this thread on starting training and there was a discussion about medical exam complications. I never considered that there would be a problem if you were in relatively good health. However, it sounds like the common advice is to go to your primary, tell them that you're...

    PPL training schedule sanity check

Ok, that's good info. I think I'll start with two 2 hr lesson blocks per week in the beginning and see how that goes. Like many have said, I can alway adjust as I go along. That seems like a good balance considering my situation and age (early 40s).

    PPL training schedule sanity check

I'm considering training for my PPL using two 3-hour sessions a week with one session during the week and another on the weekend. Assuming averaging 2 hours of flight time and 1 hour of instruction/prep/review time, does anyone think this is too aggressive or put me at a high risk for burn-out...

Part 61 versus Part 141 PPL training

In addition to what everyone said, I found the following article: Part 61 vs. Part 141

Looking for CFI for PPL near 19025

Are there any good resources for finding CFI candidates within a given area? I'd like to read brief bios and have access to contact information. All the sites I've seen so far just list names, no bios. That said, if anyone knows or is a CFI looking for a PPL student near the 19025 area, send...

Home Study Ground School for PPL?

Is it unreasonable to propose to a flight school that I will do all my ground instruction at home on my own time? With the understanding that I would bring questions to my CFI as needed? I was thinking of purchasing and using Jeppesen Part 61 Kit for my ground school instruction (on my own...

    Hortman (PNE) CFI Recommendation

Does anyone have PPL training experience with any CFIs at Hortman Aviation Flight School (based out of PNE)? I've visited a few times and so far I like the facility. However, they have quite a few instructors but no available bios. Finding the right CFI is critical and I want to choose based on...

Part 61 versus Part 141 PPL training

I'm in the early stages of getting a PPL (I visited a local FBO, met some CFIs, took an intro flight) and have a question about Part 61 vs Part 141 training. As I understand it, Part 61 are the standards used when someone wants to work with a CFI who's not associated with a training school...

    Considering Private Pilot Cert

Thanks for all the replies so far -- this is really helping me make an informed decision. I know I'm probably over-analyzing this, but I just don't want to spend $10K over the next year and come to the realization that I can't afford to fly "post-license". It sounds like there's a lot of...

    Considering Private Pilot Cert

This is the kind of info that I'm looking for. I'm trying to answer the "what can I do with my license once I have it?" question. Sounds like you have a club that offers access to rental planes and you can rent a plane for short trips.

    Considering Private Pilot Cert

Hi, I'm considering earning my private pilot certification (airplane). However, before I start the process, I wanted to make sure it made sense from a practical perspective. I'm hoping that you all can help me make an informed decision to proceed or not… 1. I've done a bit of exploration...
