Now I feel pretty good about it…

Sold my Tiger to a young fellow new pilot a few weeks ago…I wasn’t flying as much, medical issues looming, hot seller’s market…felt the usual regret until today when FlightAware shows a flight Lancaster, PA to the Jersey Shore and back with an overnight stay…..glad she’s getting the sort of...

    KCDK going upscale.

This week during a brief visit to Cedar Key, I noted the new addition of a weather reporting device installed close to the windsock. I had confirmed a few weeks ago with the County Council that AWOS was coming. ….about to get fancy! Know there’s a few here that land there.

I’m told by the Levy County Board of County Commissioners that runway resurfacing is scheduled to start next week, and is expected to finish early October......so, watch those NOTAMS. None yet as of yesterday.

    Cedar Key and COVID-19

just now: UPDATE: effective NOON TOMORROW Meeting update: The City Commission has passed an emergency declaration which will be published tomorrow. Effectively, it limits access to the island to 1) residents 2) long term stays already in place and 3) any essential business. NO day trips, NO new...

    Basic Med....but wait, there’s more

I’ve held Third Class until went Basic Med in 4/2018.....all well and good until today I received a letter from the FAA OC Med branch requesting information on previous diagnoses which have been quiescent and not affecting piloting ability: - “SVT” - actually a workup a number of years ago for...

    Landing on I-81

http://wcyb.com/news/local/small-aircraft-makes-emergency-landing-on-i-81 Appears from description and Flight Aware data most likely fuel exhaustion. First day owning plane. Flight Aware course is interesting: westbound, then brief 180, then resumed westbound, then seems to have tried...

    GNS 530W Demo mode

I’ve searched Garmin Manual, Google, YouTube, etc to no clear answer. How to get GNS 530W into Demo mode for knob turning in the hangar? Found one vague reference in 430 to push <ENTER> twice on startup; another to powering up while holding down Direct To key Any experience here before I get...

    Mic volume

what will probably turn out to be a dumb question.....but here goes: For first time yesterday had the following: - headphone volumes from ATC and from mic when NOT transmitting are appropriate, but - headphone volume when I’m transmitting (re PTT’ing) are VERY loud to point of discomfort...

    Group Hangars

School me please on group hangars. I’ve always rented T-hangars for my Grumman Tiger, no experience at all with Group Hangars. There is Group Hangar space becoming available at a nice little airport a bit closer to home at a cheaper price ($125 vs $194 for the T). Haven’t visited there yet but...

    Reed switch theory

Bear with me here: I’ve a vintage cyclometer on my vintage road bicycle (Cat Eye Micro CC-6000, and Bob Jackson Super Tourist respectively, not that it matters). The cadence has stopped registering and via diagnostics with a magnet and various jumper wires, it appears the issue is the wired...

    Alternative to Wombat

Bad Elf recently finally released their Wombat device - essentially a box that via WiFi can download Jepp nav data via Jepp’s new iOS app from your cellphone then with attaching a Skybound to the Wombat USB port get the data to your Garmin data card. IMHO, $250 seems pricey for this...

    Fuel mix disposal

Have a couple gallons of 2 cycle oil:gasoline mix that is old and probably contaminated. Ideas how to safely and ecologically reasonably dispose of. Hazardous waste days around here are all but nonexistent. Thinking of just letting it evaporate but this time of year would take forever.

    Skunked - no aviation content

For all the years I've lived in the country, I've never had a significant Skunk encounter until this AM: 5AM dogs (2 Labs) got me up for their breakfast as usual, then out to do their AM rounds, while I returned to bed. Five-year-old came in through doggy door in what seemed a bit more urgency...

IR training - PIC vs IFR6 vs et al?

Just started IR training w independent CFII. So far unimpressed - had me trying Holds in airplane on Day2. Although I did really well on Knowledge and understand Holds, feel this is not optimal. Think I will fulfill my initial 10hrs then switch to an accelerated program that uses Simulator...
