    Funny, quirky or illogical rules

No it was the glide slope height above a chicken farmers land near an army airport in WWII who sued the army for coming to his 'property' and frightening his chickens to death with engine noise

    Funny, quirky or illogical rules

I heard a podcast recently about uncontrolled airspace from 83 feet to 500 feet. Why 83'? Anyone heard of that? Check out http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2014/05/30/317074394/drone-wars-who-owns-the-air But that got me thinking - what are some of the more illogical, funny or quirky rules or...

Flying Risk & Your Young Family

Ditto, me and the wife don't fly together unless we are all 4 there. Sort of a morbid compact, but a good working compromise. The rule stays till the two girls get out of college. A side note, last christmas all of us were home, so we had a great fly-in vacation to Asheville, NC. No booking...

    8s on pylons

Both those are examples of 'turns around a point'. How does that elevate to 8s on pylons with a precise pivotal altitude based on GS - with the pylons being a mile or so apart ... I am sure the enemy gunners wont be that obliging :). All jokes in good spirit!

    8s on pylons

I am undergoing training for my Commercial certificate and I was discussing various commercial maneuvers with my CFI today. While we agreed and could 'figure out' uses for maneuvers like steep spirals, chandelles, lazy 8s we could not think of practical applications for 8s on pylons. To be frank...

    Rear view mirrors on planes

Good question. I am getting a complex endorsement and have also wondered about this, not so much to look behind me but to get eyes on the landing gear in case of a '3-green' malfunction.

Fly to Brazil for the Soccer World Cup?

After talking to many people I am leaning towards the Caribbean route both ways. Though its all a dream right now. I do have a couple of non pilot pals who have tentatively signed on... so the cost bit is looking more realistic. Have to find a plane though, and hopefully another pilot - that...

Fly to Brazil for the Soccer World Cup?

Hi, I am a relatively newly minted IFR pilot with about 350 hours. Currently working for my commercial certificate. I am based in the Philadelphia area. I have been thinking of flying to Brazil next June-July (2014) to be there for some part of the Soccer world cup. I have been talking to...
