Funny, quirky or illogical rules

I heard a podcast recently about uncontrolled airspace from 83 feet to 500 feet. Why 83'? Anyone heard of that? Check out http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2014/05/30/317074394/drone-wars-who-owns-the-air

But that got me thinking - what are some of the more illogical, funny or quirky rules or procedures that you have come across?

No it was the glide slope height above a chicken farmers land near an army airport in WWII who sued the army for coming to his 'property' and frightening his chickens to death with engine noise

I am of two minds; most of the rules are pretty sane - however my understanding is that the number of FARs has grown substantially over the years...with no end in sight. And the downside to excessive regulation is a reduction in the availability of aviation due to cost and people no longer participating.
